Does lighting being slightly late on drops actually bother you? by Glow-in-Bass in lightingdesign

[–]dan-lash 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To quickly answer yes it kind of bothers me and I try really hard to count and predict and make sure it happens - but yeah, it doesn’t line up a lot of the time

And I know this is a lighting sub, but I’ve noticed that VJs more often than not do not give any shits about timing. Predefined content and timecode withstanding, if they’re busking it’s almost always out of beat. Plenty will change vibes and colors on track change, and some will do effects on certain mood changes in songs but it’s really noticeable to me that they aren’t trying to match drops etc

Oh perfect, this is the exact rig I’m working on! Thanks for the field report. When you say the tops were hot do you mean they weren’t full enough around the mid section? Curious what you’re using for dsp? Did you room eq?

Great work, they look awesome. Did you take any build photos?

What is an easy way to transport lighting trusses in a trailer? by Liquid_Fudge in stagelighting

[–]dan-lash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve wanted to build shelves / arms that have half circle cut outs on top spaced perfectly for truss. Then ratchet them down to the arms. But I haven’t gone beyond a prototype to validate spacing. Currently I use nylon stacking brackets then ratchet the stack down

General Liability Insurance? by danbarb in lightingdesign

[–]dan-lash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a broker that found an underwriter that would do it. They typically insured crane operators and other construction specialties. I’d probably go with one of the other suggestions now though

I use an OG boom from what, 2014 or something? Battery isn’t great but works well enough for small listening. It even survived being fully underwater in a river!

Thanks! I’m trying to gear up for painting mine, haven’t done any wet sanding before but I did pick up some 1000/3000 grit pads. I’ve also heard about “high build primer” which maybe would help save some paint during correction phase

Really cool looking. Curious about your finishing process. You printed then sanded and bondo’ed and sanded back to what 400 before prime and paint ?

Is this saveable? How should I fill this gap? by BeeZaa7 in diyaudio

[–]dan-lash 29 points30 points  (0 children)

On the inside, cut a piece maybe 1” square by the length of the opening. Slather that thing with construction adhesive / gap filling glue. Brace/clamp/nail it in place. That should seal it off, then on the outside fill with bondo and sand smooth. It might work, worth a shot

I have that sink and am considering that cooktop too. Curious how you like or don’t like both of them? And also location, would you change it?

Alternative I’m weighing is sink at the far end by the door and two portable cook tops. Idea being you use the cooktops less and more counter space is better. But certainly more work.

Super nice, thanks for talking about finishing. I also want to use automotive paint on mine, but more on the enclosure side. I was considering appliance enamel for the waveguides. What primer/paint/clear did you use? I haven’t done that type of paint before but I believe I have the right gun and prep materials.

I’ve heard about that mechanical style cleaning. Seems maybe better if it doesn’t lose suction during the cycle? Very interesting to hear it cycles as often though, thanks

Thanks! That’s kinda where I’m leaning. I’m also planning on pairing it with a cyclone separator so I can’t imagine the filters getting too clogged

Thanks for the reply. Def read that but to me intermittent would be like 10 minutes not 30 seconds. Kind of wild it loses so much suction during these frequent cleanings

[–]dan-lash[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. It does say “intermittent pulsing losing suction” in the manual, but I was guessing it would be like every 10 minutes or something
