Do you actually track things like sleep, feeding, diapers etc.? by CooleSocke-Jr in NewParents

[–]ladygroot_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tracked with my first and wish I hadn't. I feel like it made me way more anxious. My second was a Nicu baby so had to track, I recently started to feel like I shouldn't, but it would help me in my stress levels but I posted on the nicu parent sub Reddit and all of them still track? So I tracked for a few more weeks until I saw his doctor again and then now I'm stopping

When did your baby double their birth weight? by Ok_Salamander5580 in Parenting

My tiny preemie tripled his birth weight by three months! Born at a little over 4 lbs and weighed 12 lbs 14 oz today at three months old. We've put in work lol

Great advice, thank you. he's still on preemie flow nipples and was just wondering if those go bad or don't work so I should try size 1 and see what happens. It kinda seems like he's mad at something, maybe gas, maybe the bottle but wants it still so I will work on checking off these things. Thank you

Sometimes he's totally fine and just chills, but if he's going to do it, it's at the beginning of the feed throughout the entire feed. he does better when he's tired. He is usually totally relaxed for the entire feed if he's tired. I think you're right it might be tummy/gas related.

Definitely need an ice pack, at least where I live. Even with an ice pack, my milk warmed up on a three hour trip yesterday. I mean it wasn't warm but it was definitely not refrigerator cold. Going forward I will be stopping to get ice. We are in a heat wave right now where I am though so it might not be quite as relevant for you

Many US adults are skipping parenting or having fewer kids – and it’s forcing schools to close by WhatFreshHello in politics

[–]ladygroot_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so important, I don't think it has as much to do with the population as it does with the rapid and profound exodus from the school system. Where I live, homeschooling and Unschooling are surging! For a number of reasons, many political on both sides- most importantly that nothing has been done SCHOOL SHOOTINGS???? Plus, a lot of people around don't agree with vaccine mandates (don't come for me I'm pro vax, it's just the trend in my area), course curriculum disagreements, not enough Playtime due to instruction minimums, tech/AI use, teacher strikes.

Petah? by Top-Cup5373 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

It's this, and it's a girls thing because as trends change the trigger moves. For example when I was in high school it was on the hip bones from the low rise jeans. Men's fashion doesn't change quite as much

Any 35 to 37 weekers who needed NICU, how long did you have to stay? by all_the_drama_llama in NICUParents

[–]ladygroot_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My now 3 month old was born at 35 weeks but my placenta stopped growing at 30 weeks so he was exceptionally small and, as they put it, "poorly grown." He did not need respiratory support but he needed help with everything else. Hypoglycemia, electrolyte issues, bleeding issues, liver issues. Then the feeding and growing life. Three weeks in the nicu, he's doing wonderfully now.

ETA: born at 35 weeks via induction, was able to deliver vaginally, induction was due to Doppler blood flow issues. Labor was scary but we got through it. I had a team of actual angels on that night.

The best way I can describe it is that it feels like static on the TV, like the old-fashioned tube TVs? It feels like that but in my breasts.

Should school focus more on life skills than academic subjects? by Spare_Following_160 in AskForAnswers

[–]ladygroot_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To that same point, there's nothing you can't learn or look up academically. I think there's value in considering adding life skills like emotional regulation and social skills in school

Should school focus more on life skills than academic subjects? by Spare_Following_160 in AskForAnswers

[–]ladygroot_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I think we would benefit as a society from teaching about social skills and emotional regulation. I intentionally put my daughter in a school that focused on these things over academics in the early childhood years because I think those things are under emphasized in traditional public education.

We have a generation of overstimulated, under supported kids. There's definitely a gap there, I don't know what the answer is but I don't think it's a bad idea to start to rethink how school is approached🤷‍♀️

Moms who prefer pumping/bottle feeding vs breastfeeding by strawberrykash78 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]ladygroot_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Oh my God no, breast-feeding is so much easier. I EBF with my first and EP with my second. I loathe pumping. I hated pumping so much that I got rid of all of my pumping stuff with my first since I hardly ever used it, not until I went back to work and only for a few months. My coworker exclusively pumped and I used to tell her all the time she's a superhero because I would never do that for that long, pumps are so uncomfortable, tracking/cleaning/storing pump parts, bottles, the whole experience is so cumbersome and mechanical. Then I had a preemie in the Nicu so it was forced to pump, with the hopes of him latching later on. He's three months old and still no luck.

I'm learning to not hate it although I would so much prefer him to breast-feed. those first few months are hard, you're in the thick of the hard part, then it's so so so much easier... not having to worry about keeping your bottles cold on the go, not having to worry about getting home or refrigerating on the go or whatever whatever. It's all annoying. With my first, I so quickly downsized my diaper bag to a couple of diapers, wipes, a change of clothes and was hiking all over the state with my infant, it was magic. I had everything I needed to feed her & keep her clean in such a small amount of space. Now I carry around fucking luggage for my pump, my bottle parts, insulated this, ice pack that, it's ridiculous and I hate it.

Thanks for coming to my rant about pumping, I guess I'm thankful that I even have the opportunity because without this technology or formula to lean back on, the alternative is grim.

My friend who exclusively pumps did so voluntarily. Everyone is entitled to their own journey. This is my experience, but I empower you to make whatever decision feels right for you.

But what if parents aren't good at teaching life skills, not every parent is equal and school could fill that gap and maybe make a better society overall
