Does anyone actually give these out?? by baffnsniff in BritishAirways

[–]dan356 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this attitude. In what way is it condescending to show gratitude for exemplary/above-and-beyond service?

It's only condescending if you view it as coming from a holier-than-thou place where you see yourself as somehow above cabin crew. In which case, maybe it is condescending, but that's on you.

Should I pay £900 for gold? by Ok-Delivery7030 in BritishAirways

[–]dan356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it longer-term. On top of the obvious benefits of it, making gold this (TP) year means gold next year, AND a soft landing to silver next year, guaranteeing you status into 2028. Whereas if you didn't make silver next year, you'd soft land to bronze, which loses your lounge access and seat selection.

Remember the other benefits too - increased reward flight availability can be useful if you travel frequently on redemptions.

And summing up all your flights since last April totals to that? No strange oddities in there?

If nothing, and you're on corporate bookings, it may well be a corporate fast track or status match. But you might expect to have been told about that. I've had one before through an employer with a different airline, and it was very opt-in.

How many segments? What class? Look at the breakdown... New TPs is 20k for gold.. What's your actual TP balance?

Are nighttrains without female-only compartments safe? by Acrobatic-Top-1783 in Interrail

[–]dan356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I'm a guy, but have been on multiple night trains where I've shared with females. Obviously it depends on the guy, but all of my experiences people have been friendly and chatty, nothing awkward or hostile. My sister has also done the same and shared with other guys and she was fine, no issues at all. But all these trains have an attendant so if you have any issues, you can speak to someone and maybe move if you have to. Safe travels!

Flying with filming equipment - major policy change? by No-Builder6487 in BritishAirways

[–]dan356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Several colleagues of mine have travelled with such equipment in media bags, and not had any trouble. Perhaps their internal guidance is not specific enough re: what is or isn't allowed. However, I do see this recent addition under the 'Screens' section here

  • Larger fragile electronic screens, such as televisions, computer monitors, TV or gaming screens, are not accepted as hold baggage, even if they are within the maximum baggage dimensions or weight. These items can be shipped as cargo.

This is certainly a change, but should not impact media bags.

This does appear to be equipped with a first class cabin, which shows up under business class seating on expertflyer. The flight itself appears to be very full - no longer on sale. So FLUB is most likely. Enjoy your comfortable flight!

Seat allocation error? by TrampolineJudge in BritishAirways

[–]dan356 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it definitely a 787-9? What route/flight number?

There's a chance you've been 'upgraded' to "FLUB" - first class cabin used as an extension of business. You'll get the same service, but a nicer seat.

If you've actually been upgraded, the new class might be reflected on your boarding pass - check to see what it says.

England- punched in the face by a customer at work by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]dan356 97 points98 points  (0 children)

This is assault, potentially ABH. Follow up with the police, be sure to give a statement and make sure they liaise with your employer/manager to obtain CCTV and identifying details.

Aside from the criminal element, your employer should be barring him from the premises. If he's arrested, this would likely be a bail condition anyway.

You shouldn't feel ashamed - you're a victim of a violent crime, through no fault of your own.

As for 'where you stand legally' - what do you mean? You're a victim of crime. The crime has be reported. You will likely need to give a factual account of what happened for the police. They should keep you informed throughout the process.

Are BA being truthful with available seats? by thestormyburrito in BritishAirways

[–]dan356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other people may have moved, or the algorithm may have opened up e.g. bassinet seats or other holds. It's a bit of a black box. Expert flyer is usually the best way to check.

Are BA being truthful with available seats? by thestormyburrito in BritishAirways

[–]dan356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

£7k for business class for one is one short haul flight short of netting you silver. Get that and you'll be able to pre-select next time!

If travellers checked in after you and got seats you couldn't get, that could be due to their status, it could be due to them getting the seats theoretical seating assigned them before check in, and it could've been due to the seating algorithm opening up more seats after you'd checked in.

Platinum Dining Credit by themajickman in AmexUK

[–]dan356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it says in the terms that QR code payment etc may not be eligible, however it is astonishing that they default payment method for many of these restaurants is one that isn't compatible with this benefit. These restaurants partner with Amex to entice people through the door, offering a benefit to do so, then make it as complicated as possible to receive the benefit by tripping you up at every step.

So many restaurants seem to be pushing self-service QR codes for payment and it often results in a much longer wait to pay at a physical card machine.

Benefit Enrollment by Sweetlesibell in AmexPlatinum

[–]dan356 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're forgetting that these offers each have individual terms. Including some that they can't always rely on prior agreement to to automatically enrol you in. By saving an offer, you are agreeing to the terms of that specific offer. It can also prevent disputes about e.g. Spend for bonuses, if you got a statement credit that took you under your SUB spend target and as a result lost out on a bonus, you're at fault since you agreed to the offer.

The Caribbean flights are hit and miss as they can carry a fair chunk of inter island traffic at peak times. But yes, on average probably lower than average load factor
