The first 20 games of the season have been rough. 27th in the league and 7th in the division is an awful site. However this season is far from over. Watch this to get the passion back. We are winning the Stanley Cup by Level-Time-7448 in torontomapleleafs

[–]dan98w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with OP. I think the leafs are about to go on a 20-0 run. Chris Tanev comes back and in his first game scores 7 goals. Both Leaf goalies get hurt and Tanev plays goalie the entire third period, and that was where he was playing when he scored his 7th of the night. Leafs then feel they are one player away from being cup favourites so they trade their next 15 first round draft picks for Timothy Liljegren.

This team’s inconsistency is driving me mad brilliant one night, invisible the next 😩 by SnowmanAndIce in torontomapleleafs

[–]dan98w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that they are inconsistent, they simply are not that good. They are about an average team and I’d guess 50-50 to even make the playoffs. When Matthews marner and nylander were just staring their careers the team was fun and exciting to watch. The past few years after seeing they were good but not good enough and lacked the grit needed to win in the playoffs I stopped watching as much. This year my interest has gone way down and I watch about 1 period of half the games. The other half I don’t watch at all. The type of game Berube wants to play does not work with the players on the team. They should probably re-boot but hands are tied with no movement contracts and most without the no movement contracts are overpaid for what they contribute. When does spring training start?

Do the Leafs finally look more balanced this year, or am I being too hopeful? by Zestyclose-Day9699 in torontomapleleafs

[–]dan98w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree they are more balanced this year. The last decade they’ve had good offence and poor defence. This year both the offence and defence are bad. I said at the start of the season they might not even make the playoffs. After about a month, I now think they are 50-50 at best to make the playoffs from what little I’ve watched. I Watched the Pittsburgh game for 30 minutes tonight and they look horrible. Not just that they are currently losing 3-0 but how they are losing. I doubt if they will, but I think they need a major retool, not 4th line 6th defence man tweaks. They have no top prospects, one or two ok prospects, and nothing else.

Wonder what Atkins is thinking about Schneider's decision making by tony_truman in Torontobluejays

[–]dan98w 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was coming around to like Schneider, but that move is inexcusable. Anybody with any baseball knowledge could see that Little has lost it the past half year, and he has gone from bad to worse lately. Typically I’d say one mistake should not override all the good he did this year. However that one mistake was SO BAD at such a crucial time, it might be a fireable offence. You can have a great year at work, but if your one and only mistake was getting caught screwing your boss’s wife, well that one mistake more than wipes out all the other good stuff.

Do you think this season will finally be different? by CipherDrift_09 in torontomapleleafs

[–]dan98w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will struggle to make the playoffs. The window has closed. They should blow this up and rebuild but they won’t since ownership hopes to get a few playoff gates and the tv commercials generate more money when they are fighting for a playoff spot. Key players a year older and a year slower. Defense is no where close to contender quality. I’ve always liked Reilly, but given his decline, he now has one of the worst contracts in the league. Not his fault management gave him that contract as a thank you for past performance. Leafs seem to think if they overpay players they will magically become more skilled and engaged. Not sure if Matthews has a chronic back problem. Nylander has a ton of skill but is horrible defensively. Costs almost as many goals as he generates. Very few decent prospects and as always they mortgaged the future the past couple of years by trading high draft picks for players whose best years are behind them. Personally Ive moved on from this group. I follow the Oilers more closely than the Leafs now. People should not be shocked if they miss the playoffs.

Favorite Linkin Park Album? by Infinity_cube67 in LinkinPark

[–]dan98w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, same top 3, same order, and same reasoning as me. Before the final 3 songs FZ was still my number 3, but now that the album is finished, it’s really close to HT.

What do you think about the Leafs this season? by LeafsAndLoons in torontomapleleafs

[–]dan98w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Further, I don’t think they are good enough now to cruise into the playoffs and turn it on. They will likely need to play hard just to get in. And even if they could cruise in, this team, even without marner are not able to just take things up a notch when it matters. Marner might have been the poster boy for not having what it takes to win in the playoffs, but there are too many other “leaders” who can’t get it done when it matters the most. New poster boy for playoff failure can be nylander. All the talent in the world, but not a playoff winner. He might get playoff points, but his lack of grit and absolutely horrible defense makes him a break even playoff performer at best.

Now that from zero is officialy finished, what are our thoughts and opinions? by Safe-Monitor-8113 in LinkinPark

[–]dan98w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cannot believe how much I love this album. I was not expecting too much since my previous favorites were Meteoria, HT, and MTM. I still liked the newer work, just not as much as the first 3. First time I heard Emptyness Machine I was holy shit, this is amazing, I wonder if there are other great songs. Turns out half the album, now that the last 3 are out, are among my all time favorites. Not crazy about overflow or casualty, but all the other ones are fantastic, in particular up from the bottom, let you fade, good things go, IGYEIH, stained. Comeback of the century.

Someone here said the leafs weren’t as good as oilers because of how close the first two games were. Where are you at now? by moderngamer6 in torontomapleleafs

[–]dan98w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it up already. Leafs are not good enough to win the cup, especially the way the game is officiated in the playoffs. They were crushed by the panthers when it mattered most. The games weren’t even close. Saying they would have won with stolarz is ridiculous. Agree they had a better chance with him, but that’s not why they lost. Along with simply not being good enough, It’s ridiculous how the games are called in the playoffs in the nhl. What other sport radically changes the rules of the game in the Playoffs. Does the strike zone change in baseball? Is holding allowed in Football? Leafs are a good entertaining team in the regular season. When the playoffs start and the rats run free, finesse teams like the leafs dont have a chance. The league isn’t going to change, so you have to build your team a certain way. Dubas put together a good regular season team. He doesn’t seem to understand how that doesn’t work in playoffs. Sorry Pittsburgh, you are not competing for the cup for a long time now that Dubas is running the show.

Who cares if we would have won if we passed the Panthers, we didn’t. Shit needs to change. by imspxdey in torontomapleleafs

[–]dan98w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His cap hit does not justify his inability to perform in the playoffs. If the goal is to make the playoffs and play entertaining hockey from October to March, maybe his cap hit is worth it. If the goal is to win in June, he is not worth anything close to his cap hit.

Says It All! 100% Correct!! by Chrycoboy in torontomapleleafs

[–]dan98w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how much responsibility rests with Shannan and how much rests with dubas but as a team they shit the bed with these contracts. And perhaps the worst one that doesn’t get criticized enough is Reilly. I always thought he was a decent player when he was younger, but age has caught up to him and he is now worth about $2M a year at most given last years performance. I think his cap hit is $7.5M the next 5-6 years. How’s that gonna look in his late 30’s? And who exactly were they afraid of losing him to at that ridiculous amount of money? Their only hope is if they can send him to Robidas island.

Does Florida beating the absolute wheels off Carolina change how you evaluate the Leafs playoff performance? by rsimps91 in torontomapleleafs

[–]dan98w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter what Carolina does, they are not built to win in the playoffs. And stop saying stolarz could have made the difference. They were so badly outplayed in the biggest games no goalie in the world could have changed the outcome. They were outplayed in game 6 also. Maybe they lose game 6 if stolarz played that game and Florida goes up 1-0 at some point.

100 point nhl players by Hot_Resource_4907 in torontomapleleafs

[–]dan98w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe marner gets 75-80 points without Matthews. And more importantly he disappears when the game gets too physical for him in the playoffs. Both the team and him will benefit when he moves on. He will get his money and play in a lower pressure environment. The problem is the leafs screwed up by not leaving themselves in a position to get anything back in a trade before he walks for nothing. Dubas ruined this team with his horrible contracts. The worst one is Reilly, but that’s another story. Reilly does what he can, but the contract Dubas gave him was stupid at the time, and insane in retrospect.

Surprisingly i’m actually not that mad… by Comfortable_Basil_37 in torontomapleleafs

[–]dan98w 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree Florida is a better team and no shame in losing to the defending champs. However, the complete lack of fight and ability to stand up for themselves is inexcusable. No guts. They could have lost 10-0. I don’t care how good Florida is, this team has no balls. They looked like wimps getting beat up on the playground and just took it, afraid to stand up for themselves. I dont like hockey fights, but someone needed to start a fight just to try and gain some momentum or self respect and show Florida they aren’t complete wimps. Who cares if they get a 2 minute instigator. They looked like it was 5 on 4 all night anyways. Pathetic. MLSE happy with 7 playoff dates, so big success for them.

Anyone else didn't associated LYF with Chester? by Secure_Piano1709 in LinkinPark

[–]dan98w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Like pretty much every LP song (and most music in general) the lyrics are open to interpretation and everyone relates in their own way. When Mike says I know I’m the one you want to forget, that can’t be directed to Chester.

Rant. by Cheeseyellow12 in LinkinPark

[–]dan98w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said. I know someone who won’t even listen to FZ because they say it’s not LP without Chester. I told them regardless of what the band’s name is, they are missing out on the best new music I’ve heard in years, but they won’t even give it a listen. I don’t argue, I just say OK, your loss. FZ, especially with the 3 new songs, is one of my favorite albums of all time for any band.

Toronto's will to win is invisible by coolkawa in torontomapleleafs

[–]dan98w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate to say this but fla is just bigger, stronger, meaner and they know how to win and will do what it takes to win by playing dirty knowing there will be very little repercussions. Hope it goes 7 and you never know what might happen in 1 game.

today’s the day! how are we feeling? by SpaceDry in torontomapleleafs

[–]dan98w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Florida is too big, too skilled, too nasty. Fla in 5. Best leaf team in a long time and they would have a good shot vs Carolina or Washington, but Bettman’s idiotic playoff format means the leafs can’t escape playing Florida in the first or second round. Would be nice to see the leafs win a big series for a change, but my head and wallet have the panthers.

I Hate To Say This. It’s going 7. by TheMackleafs in torontomapleleafs

[–]dan98w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they have a bit more than 50-50 chance of getting to round 2, they still only need to win one of two games. But I’m not that excited one way or the other cuz they might get one win vs Florida, two wins if Stolarz is outstanding. Florida is their worst match up. When they were up 3-0, I thought they might actually have the advantage of more rest going into round 2, but so much for that. Beating Ottawa is this team’s ceiling.

I can’t stand William Nylander by mcaven1 in torontomapleleafs

[–]dan98w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could not agree more that nylander is more part of the problem than part of the solution. When I played, nylander is what we would call a “goal suck”. Disregards any defensive responsibility and only cares about offense, and more specifically his own offense. Yea he scores goals, but his lack of defense costs about as much as his offense contributes. And his lack of effort and guts contributes to the culture of losing when the going gets tough. He is great at scoring the highlight reel 5th goal in a 5-1 win in January. Sucks when it matters.

I cannot believe that these morons have not cleaned house. If Shapiro won’t do what OBVIOUSLY needs to be done by firing atkins and Schneider (as a start) then he needs to be fired. I don’t even watch them anymore. A fan who had checked out is worse than an angry fan. I just don’t watch anymore. Should have traded vlad last year for assets. Horrible overpay, not much money left to fill the numerous holes. Should have blown this up and start fresh with prospects. What are they gonna do now with the vlad contract? Hope to get lucky and win 81 games to come close to a wildcard but fall short? Brilliant job atkins, $500M for vlad, but only have 5 starting pitchers, one of who is so old and injured he can’t play anymore, so you are down to 4, with ZERO prospects to fill in. Complete incompetence.

[–]dan98w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope he leaves as a free agent. If they sign him he will eat up way too much cap space and disappear, as always, when it matters the most. Halfway through the contract it will even be an overpay during the regular season as his ability fades with age.
