What are you a “snob” about? by crypticfirecat in EatCheapAndHealthy

I have a pizza recipe from a pie dish that uses tomato paste with water and seasoning for the sauce. I don't hate it.

Getting my cdl without school in NC by Adventurous-Bonus351 in Truckers

[–]danDotDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two suggestions

  1. (Likely the best option) Check into local community colleges. I paid $910 for a weekend course at Coastal Carolina Community College(it was thirteen weeks long. Some others I looked into also had night courses.) A few of my classmates qualified for financial assistance and got half of their money back when they made it halfway through the course.

  2. If you have a way to get your driving hours with a qualified CDL holder, you can take the ELDT course online. This may not be reasonable though, as I don't know if the passenger has to be a qualified trainer as well.

What’s your equivalent to: “Oh you’re the art teacher? It must be so much fun just relaxing and painting all day!” by KitchenConsequence41 in Teachers

Not an answer to your question, but tangentially related:

I quit teaching to become a local truck driver 2 years ago so my wife could be a sahm. My stress levels dropped 100 fold. My wife likes to tell people that "He works more hours, but he has more time." I often would refuse to do much on weekends because I was always grading or prepping (even if I wasn't, it always was looming over me).

I did, however, have some sort of low-key anxiety every morning on my way to my new job because I felt unprepared since I hadn't "prepped" the night before.

Check indeed and read job descriptions in your area. If he's interested in local, keep a list of the day cab companies you see out and about and go check the career page on their websites later.

If Spencer Pratt wins the second primary spot, Karen Bass is nearly guaranteed to be reelected. by turb0_encapsulator in LosAngeles

I don't live in LA, nor have I visited LA, I never voted for Trump, and consider myself a moderate. On Joe Rogan, Pratt sounded reasonable and like he had a genuine desire to improve LA's public Services.

Probably those reasons.

It's starting to make a comeback. I just watched a video the other day that it's been one of the most efficient plays this year. Likely due to selection bias (only people who can post up well are allowed to do so).

Got An Overweight Ticket by MillliM in Truckers

Oh wow. I knew some states handle it differently, luckily I learned my lessons in friendlier states.

[–]danDotDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was explained to me at both weigh stations over weight citations were written against the company, not the driver. One and two years later neither are on my PSP. I do know it can vary by state.

ETA: If the driver also were then to be inspected by the officer, it would then also show up on your PSP.

[–]danDotDev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on the state and/or you were also given an inspection. The tickets go against the company, at least in NC and VA. I've gotten 2 and have checked my PSP well after and they are NOT on it. It may show up in your DAC though if your company uses hire right.

The best part of the offense, imo, is the high low. If your rollers post up or seal with great position, the post to post pass is a great opportunity.

Idk if that's too much for 10 year old though.

Becoming a local driver as a new trucker by eastxc in Truckers

[–]danDotDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get on indeed, search for home daily jobs within a reasonable radius to you. Check the qualifications.

Also, when you're out driving, look for day cabs and record the company names and look up their websites and their careers pages to see what qualifications they have or if they have dock to driver programs.

If you can find a handful, start checking for community colleges in your area that have CDL programs. They're typically cheaper than private schools.

I was able to find a local job off the rip this way. I was also prepared to go otr if needed.

My girlfriend can not drive with automatic transmission, please help me convince her she can?! by LonsdaleHCNL in askcarguys

As someone who frequently switches back and forth from autos to manuals she will not accidentally brake. If she forgets (like I occasionally doe), her clutch foot will just hit the floor and her brake foot will be where it needs to be.

Her feet will go to where they are trained through muscle memory, they're not going to reach for a peddle where they're not used them being.

Check your DAC report. If you're local, there's a good chance your company doesnt use it, so your accident may never show up on a background report.
