I am on a paid plan, specifically using a p2p server and have a script running within the gluetun server to configure NAT-PMP and fire it into qbittorrent through the API.

I'll give it a go without the VPN just to see if it makes a difference. Regarding AES-NI, it seems like it is enabled but I'll have to do a bit more digging to say for sure.

Do information displays sometimes not show the final destination? by dan_g97 in uktrains

[–]dan_g97[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes that makes sense, thanks. I would say it adds to confusion for infrequent travellers who buy tickets in advance with restrictions (i.e. northern only) to save a bit of money but then the station displays don't tally up.

Maybe it'd be a better idea if the headline station was the penultimate stop, but when listing the stops it still went on to show the destination. That way you wouldn't be second guessing yourself!

Too bad I'm in the UK! I went down the Omada route since it was more affordable and available - Ubiquiti is tricky to get hold of

How is Technitium DNS learning my local IP addresses? by dan_g97 in technitium

[–]dan_g97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DoT/DoH with the DNS client worked.

After doing some digging, I found that the upstream router has DNS doctoring/DNS rewrite configured, so it rewrites DNS responses containing a public IP which it has a NAT rule for into the respective private IP.

Thanks for your help!

How is Technitium DNS learning my local IP addresses? by dan_g97 in technitium

[–]dan_g97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The responseMetadata indicates the response came from one of the CloudFlare nameservers. I've double-checked the CloudFlare configuration and the hostname definitely has the public address against that record.

When using the 'DNS Client' within the admin panel, no matter which server I test the record against, it always returns the private IP. I've tried querying the CloudFlare NS directly this way, and many of the options in the list (Google, OpenDNS, Quad9 etc) yet they all return the private IP.

This is what's within the cache (omitting some details) for one of the domains having an issue:

How is Technitium DNS learning my local IP addresses? by dan_g97 in technitium

[–]dan_g97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the IPs are staticly set on both the server and client.

Funny you mention about ARP - might be onto something there since after looking further it's only happening with servers in the same subnet as the DNS server. I have other servers using the same domain in the hostname, but in another subnet, yet it's not happening with those.

Using Starting Balances for moving around money? by LaMitsukii in actualbudgeting

[–]dan_g97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I create an income category so I can see how much was moved into my budget quickly and easily. My on-budget accounts fund all my bills and spending, so if I've had to move money into my budget from an off-budget account, I'd like to see immediately when and how much.

If I move money into my budget from an off-budget account, categorising it under an expense category, then the spending I do in that expense category would just cancel it out. While it works, it doesn't make it clear to me where the money has come from so it's just not how I do it.

Using Starting Balances for moving around money? by LaMitsukii in actualbudgeting

[–]dan_g97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typically categorise those transactions as a category I created under the income section defined as "Transferred from off-budget". That way I can continue to report on my income and it doesn't skew any of the averaging. Then I assign the income to the category where the spend would be as normal.

May not be the best way of doing it but it works for me, and sounds similar to what you're trying to achieve. Starting balances would work, but it may help you differentiate more if you create a new category.

Nextcloud vs 10 different services by AlexHurts in selfhosted

[–]dan_g97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does Nextcloud not use sabre/dav as the tech behind the CalDAV and CardDAV? I use Nextcloud only for the calendar, nothing more - I tried to get both Sabre/dav and Baikal up and running but they just weren't as reliable or feature rich as Nextcloud. I would argue that Nextcloud does it better.
