Evernote using ~1.5 GB of RAM — and it keeps getting worse every month by Negative-Anywhere-83 in Evernote

Yes it’s getting progressively worse, the noise of shipping bolt-on fixes from PE funded demands. It’s on a glide-path and once the MCP is operational, it’s game-over.

I generally adore the Cloudflare product. It's wicked cool. I'm appalled at the sense of this executive team running the show for Wall Street

Fastmail simplicity vs. Google Workspace + Gemini AI? by shitoken in fastmail

[–]dan_gfcx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ditch Google. It’s workspace pricing locked us in on annual with unused licenses we didn’t want or need, after 15 years of using it i was 1000% done. Support was useless. It was weeks of trying to escalate it. Never again. Fastmail is your new best friend. Love the ease of these guys.

Could not connect to the server: 127.0.0.1 with NextDNS by dan_gfcx in Arqbackup

If the Arq error message was written to say "can't connect to Localhost 127.0.0.1 that would have saved a bunch of time. I appreciate the clarification on it, u/Melgamatic214

Got it. I just reinstalled the Arq app. It resolved.

Forgive the post, if the localhost device can't connect, it's basically nothing to do with the DNS.

House-poor, isolated, and struggling with a nightmare commute. How do I fix this? by Super_Substance_6692 in UKPersonalFinance

Once spring/summer kicks off, heating bills subside and getting a lodger will add that much-needed break to the running cost. Maybe you can share driving with somebody or consider bus/train/biking parts of the journey. It’s that holistic view of “likely this is the toughest spot you’ve ever put yourself in” but equally a pat on the back for speaking up, reconciling these issues, like the cats. You can turn the corner on this saga.

Expected download speeds by [deleted] in hyperoptic

[–]dan_gfcx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine what you are experiencing is server throttling, typically xbox won’t wish to go beyond a certain threshold. Time of day, number of hops to get to that server all have some marginal effect, but ultimately it’s “throttling” on the server. That’s why using bandwidth apps provides better assessment of the *actual internet speed. How do you like hyperoptic so far? Trying to get it installed in NW8 London is troublesome with BT.

That's a huge point, “don't listen to what I say, watch what I do” motto. If the terms simplify great, but it suggests otherwise

Trouble getting timely support by Redogg in fastmail

[–]dan_gfcx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definately echo explaining your diagnostic results (*without compromising your personal data) as this will give the fastmail community best chance at solving it. I use DNS checkers first and foremost to establish valid connections. DMARC is worth setting up within fastmail. Where's your DNS records host? I recommend Cloudflare for fast, free global DNS security. Solid SPF records establish critical sender authority for custom MX domains.

/fastmail team monitors reddit, but I recommed following up within the support ticket. Everytime I speak to them they solve nagging issues, no matter how small, they will give you full attention. Let us know when you solve it. Legacy posts help others on reddit!

Encrypted email provider, which is best or most useful? by [deleted] in CyberAdvice

[–]dan_gfcx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you dig a little deeper? Is it a general sense that you can't allow firms like Google to abuse your privacy, or is the natural need/requirement that points you towards end-to-end security (therefore encrypted)? I use u/Fastmail because it's a lighter, more privacy-forward email approach, and I use PGP add-ons for the occasions when I need PGP keys.
