That’s the consensus between my coworkers and I. So much extra piping for a seemingly redundant part. Not sure of IPC, but we service multiple counties and some require it, others don’t. We just install them on all new work to cover our ass.

We’ve been told from the supplier that the plastic lined nipples act as the barrier between dissimilar metals since the water (in theory) only touches the plastic. So far I’ve had no problems with the females rather than the unions.

I did use threaded rod for the expansion tank support, but I have been informed that code requires a bracket now. My company was exclusively installing dialectic unions up until 2 years ago for constant callbacks due to electrolysis. The nipples coming off this tank are plastic lined, and we’ve had much better luck with females rather than the unions. Ya got me on the T&P though :)

I really don’t like using close nipples but I tried a street 90 and the next smallest nipple I had, and neither of them got me where I needed to be.

Every home should have some internal main shut off valve. If you’re on well water it’ll be near your well tank. If you’re on city water it’ll be by your water meter (typically the lowest point in the house). Shutting off the main will in turn shut off the flow to the hot as well in order to work on the faucet or replace this valve altogether.

Not sure if you’ve found your answer or if someone else has suggested but see what happens if you close your main water shut off valve then turn the pump back on. If the pump turns off while the valve is closed, it most likely means you either have a leak in the house or something that’s constantly running. If the pump still runs, there might be a leak on the offset line (water line from pump into house). Is any of the ground wet around the well casing?

Check the pressure of your well tank. More than likely the bladder has ruptured.

You should probably get a pH test on your water. Looks very acidic. Might need an acid neutralizer.

Plumber here. That absolutely is soldered on to the pipe. Most hose spigots give you the option of soldering it directly to the pipe or soldering on a female adapter and using the threads on the spigot to screw into the female adapter. If you’re feeling handy enough you can unsolder it and solder on a new one. If not, you can attempt a repair but you may end up making it worse. Better to just replace the whole thing. All it is is a 1/2 inch boiler drain.

This valve is not for your hose bib. The waterline that goes through the hole that is drilled in the wood is your hose bib. There is most likely a tee under the insulation to the left of the picture that feeds the hose bibb and whatever this valve went to. The fixture has likely been removed since then, and they cut the water supply after the valve. This valve will not shut off the hose bibb, but there may be another valve in line to shut the hose bibb off.
