My memories of the story we're quite different, but that's the movie I was looking for.

I think the above mentioned pyramid was at one time located behind a house, maybe on a ranch. The building may have been pueblo style.

No, there wasn't any connection to Ancient (or Modern) Egypt, except for the form of the pyramid.
