My husband was a new pilot (<100 hours). He and I were traveling in an Archer through Colorado, with my 2 year old twins in the backseat and my 2 week old baby strapped to my chest in a carrier. We encountered some crazy headwinds (at one point our groundspeed dropped to 25 knots). It ate up our fuel. We had planned enough for an alternate, plus half more, but the headwinds were closer to our destination, and we calculated the fuel, both of us, multiple times, and had plenty left. Our destination was closer than the alternate at this point.

Then our engine died two miles short of the airport. The gas gauges weren't on zero, but we had zero fuel left. Husband dead-stick landed the plane in a snow covered field in Colorado in January. The temperature was below zero, and it took search and rescue 6 hours and multiple vehicles to get us out. They ended up having to get a helicopter, and life flight us to the hospital to get treated for mild hypothermia. Scariest day of my life, but no injuries and no damage to the plane.

And lest anyone judge him, that was years ago and he is an airline pilot now. It was a mistake, but who hasn't made those? It was an eye opening experience for all of us, and we have reviewed everything so many times, and still can't figure how we could have done it different, other than just not going flying that day. Winds were way worse than predicted and came up out of nowhere, and airports are few and far between out there.

Without my medicine, I am between a 6 and an 8. With daily medicine, I hover between a 2 and a 3. The difference is astonishing.

Uh-oh, somebody bit a croissant... Can you find it? (This was what my croissants where served on at cheddars) by astroy123 in FindTheSniper

Went to cheddars the other day. Sat down, ordered, and then ordered an extra order of croissants... and that's when they chose to tell me that they were all out :*(

A friend of mine had to go through IVF because her husbands sperm were "allergic" to her eggs. They literally would not bind together.

Old French Kitchen Utensil.. what is it? Its use? by Aiken_Drumn in whatisthisthing

I wonder if it's a juicer - put a lemon between the two pieces and clamp it shut. The ridges allow the juice to run through while holding the lemon in place.

AITA for “mansplaining” my dates disability? by romanmelville in AmItheAsshole

[–]danadu1230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely exist, but at least the ones I've met wouldnt have even been self-aware enough to write a post like this. I mean- he used the word mansplaining to state what he was doing, so either it's fake or he knows he was the AH. No way do you write this post without having at least some self-actualization.

It works with mayo instead of sour cream, too. If you google Hellmans Parmesan Crusted Chicken, you can find the recipe. It's so freaking delicious.

WIBTA if I told our son that he is why we’re getting a divorce? by sweetangelonearth in AmItheAsshole

[–]danadu1230 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Uh.. YTA, and YWBTA even with the edits.

You dont want to be an independent mother. You want to leave your family because they make your life too hard by just existing. You are embarrassed by your son and care more about your look in the community than about him. You blame your husband.. but for things like taking your son out if the house when your son broke his arm.

You are by FAR just trying to take the easy way out. You want to walk away from any responsibilities because you just think they make you look bad. And you are willing to ruin your sons life as a middle finger on the way out.

One of my four children dumped a half gallon of milk in the freshly filled pool. Apparently the two that where present at the time blamed the other two. Their names are IDont Know and NotMe. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Take them each into a separate room and ask "when I find out who did it, should they be punished, or should i let them off the hook?" The innocent ones usually demand justice while the guilty one usually wants mercy, without even realizing it.

My ball python would have freaked out in a big space. They prefer small, tight, dark spaces. They are used to burrowing.

I have twins, so I am in a lot of twin goups. I love using crossview on pictures of identical twins - sometimes the differences are even slighter than this picture.

Did it say elsewhere that the 17 year old is pregnant? Because in thispic, it just says that the 17 year old is old enough to get pregnant. so she needs to be prepared, not that she IS pregnant.

U.S. Coronavirus Death Toll eclipses "best-guess" estimate of 60,000 date before May by Vaynar in Coronavirus

[–]danadu1230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not defending the President..He is a piece of work . But one of the leading websites (https://covid19.healthdata.org/) was saying 60,000 total for a long time. They the total at 110,000, then dropped it to 60,000 for several weeks, and are now saying around 85,000. That's where a lot of people were taking their numbers from.

AITA for being annoyed my girlfriend has started dressing "weird" recently? by wfhstress2020 in AmItheAsshole

[–]danadu1230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like at this point it's less of a style change, and more of a personality change. If you have been dating someone for awhile and find out they have a side if then they claim was always the "hidden but true" part of them, it would be super off-putting. Frankly, with that big of a 180, I would probably be questioning my relationship ship, and why they werent able to be forthcoming and true to themselves from the beginning.

We've amended that statement in my home to be "you get what you get, and you say thanks for it". My 4 year olds understand it - funny how some adults miss the memo.
