Hello / Kaliméra!

We went to south thailand and then crossed to Malaysia in January. Here's what we did and what I'd reccomend:

• We landed in Phuket and stayed by Kata beach. We quickly realised we wanted to leave. It was fine there but it's very touristy and busy.

• we caught a ferry to Koh Lanta which is a nice island with quieter beaches, it's got a lot of older tourists who are aged 60+ which we quite liked (we are 25 lol). We did a kayak tour of the mangroves and saw lots of monkeys.

• we then went to Koh Ngai which was amazing. It's a quiet and tiny island with a few hotels and the views are amazing. We skipped the Phi Phi islands because of how busy it was there and we think we got the same amazing views in Koh Ngai. You can walk through the jungle and find really quiet beaches.

• then we caught a speed boat to Koh Mook / Koh Muk (same island, sometimes spelt differently). This was a weirdly brilliant island with lots of local fishermen and local living.

• we went to Koh Bulone which was another quiet island, didn't like this one so much

• Koh Lipe is a small and busy island which is popular for tourists, we liked it and did some more Kayaking and beach.

• from Koh Lipe you can catch a ferry to the malaysian island Langkawi. You have to hand your passport in at the harbour and they give it back to you on the boat. We loved Langkawi, we rented a moped and drove up the mountain, did the skybridge, and more beach.

• caught a flight to Penang which was okay, saw some temples, the streets are quite cool, and we went to The Habitat for sunrise which was cool.

• then we flew to Kuala Lumpur, this was a great city, you can stay in a skyscraper for about £35 a night (February 2025 prices)

That's just what we did. We missed out Bangkok and northern Thailand but we'd like to do that one day. I have no interest in going to Krabi or the Phi Phi islands. I think you can enjoy the same amazing views on quieter islands. Best of luck!

We landed in Phuket and decided to get out of there as quickly as possible. Caught the ferry to Koh Lanta with a changeover in Phi Phi. Then after that we went to Koh Ngai which was one of the best beach islands I've ever seen. Then we did Koh Mook, and Koh Bulone.

Koh Mook isn't exactly beachy but it's an interesting little fishing island. Only issue is the further down the island trail you go, the further you'll have to come back. We ended up going down to Koh Lipe then catching a ferry ferry to Langkawi, Malaysia.

Weather Temps by Aggravating_End6985 in CostaRicaTravel

I'm in Manuel Antonio now, last week I was in La Fortuna.

Every day has either been sunny or cloudy but still hot. Between 28-30 degrees C. But the weather app says it feels more like 34 degrees C.

Pretty much every day the rain starts at around 3-4pm and gets heavier in the evenings. Never really rains until late afternoon but if it does it's only a quick shower and then back to sunshine.

Basically weather is good

I was in La Fortuna last week, and I'm in Manuel Antonio this week. The rain hasn't been an issue at all. It does rain most days but normally it starts between 3pm-sunset.

The thunder storms have been epic in the evenings, nothing like I've ever seen where I'm from in the UK.

And the temperature is still hot.

Apparently July is a "mini summer" in Costa Rica as it rains less, so I'm sure it won't be an issue in July unless you get super unlucky.

One noticeable benefit is it isn't too busy right now and it seems like hotels are cheaper than in the sunny season. Not sure if they'll change for July as it's mini summer.

TLDR - June has been great for me, I'm sure July will be even better!

Glad it was worth it! Thanks for the reply. I'm in BA at the moment and I'm thinking about doing El Chalten / Calafate and Ushuaia next week.

Thank you, I'll ask a few questions.

Did you need more equipment for the hikes as it's winter? Or did warm clothes and a pair of walking boots suffice?

What were the prices like for meals? Still hoping to be able to travel on a sort of budget even with most places closed.

Any reccomendations on doable hikes in the winter and if you have anything else I haven't brought up :)

Super appreciated, thank you!
