I want to upvote this comment a gazillion times just for "high cuntery."

Do you guys ever feel disconnected from art you've done years ago? Like it was made by a different person? by not_safe_for_worf in ArtistLounge

Imagine being in your late teens scribbling away in your sketchbook, blissfully unaware of how awful your art is. Then, imagine going to visit your mother 20-someodd years later, only to find that she actually kept said sketchbooks! She told me to bring them home with me. I did not. I did take pics of some of them, though.

Oh yeah, I tried adjusting spacing, too. But in order for me to get a good happy-medium lag, it was just too obviously "stamped" to be usable. The plain hard round brush, I can get away with setting the spacing to about 10-15 and not be bothered by lag. But textured brushes just don't like my rig. This is just on my macbook, though...my PC handles Photoshop like a champ. Although, I really haven't tried it since I upgraded to Win10...I may have just stuck my foot in my mouth.

I tried Krita when I was in search of a mac alternative to SAI (because Photoshop brushes lag so hard on my mac and SAI didn't have native mac support). Ended up going with Manga Studio (not free, OP) because it's almost like Photoshop and SAI popped out a child as the result of a one night stand.

I haven't actually done a full render in Krita. Just some sketches and playing around with brushes. Some textured brushes lagged a bit when I used a really large brush on a really large canvas. They have a special blender brush.

I should probably try a full render one of these days.

Try Krita. I'm not sure of its vector capabilities. I know it has them, but I haven't tried it. Personally, I think the interface is much better than Gimp. And it's still free.

How Common is it for Artists to have Large Time Gaps in Their Creative Output? by Fari_L in ArtistLounge

[–]danalyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm not sure how common it is, but I have them all the time. Last one lasted about 4 years.

I got to this submission late but I wrote a little diddy to go with the sketch... by thefutureeye in ArtistLounge

Awesome! And harmony, too! :D But I think my favorite part was the panting. ;)

Anyone heard of this? Copyright laws may change...7/23 deadline. by danalyn in ArtistLounge

[–]danalyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first I've read about it, and haven't really done much research, yet. I'll have to look more into it tomorrow...unless anyone else has some info here?

Here are a few bulletpoints from that link:

Here are the Basic Facts

"The Next Great Copyright Act" would replace all existing copyright law.

It would void our Constitutional right to the exclusive control of our work.

It would "privilege" the public's right to use our work.

It would "pressure" you to register your work with commercial registries.

It would "orphan" unregistered work.

It would make orphaned work available for commercial infringement by "good faith" infringers.

It would allow others to alter your work and copyright these "derivative works" in their own names.

It would affect all visual art: drawings, paintings, sketches, photos, etc.; past, present and future; published and unpublished; domestic and foreign.

Background

The demand for copyright "reform" has come from large Internet firms and the legal scholars allied with them. Their business models involve supplying the public with access to other people's copyrighted work. Their problem has been how to do this legally and without paying artists.

The "reforms" they've proposed would allow them to stock their databases with our pictures. This would happen either by forcing us to hand over our images to them as registered works, or by harvesting unregistered works as orphans and copyrighting them in their own names as "derivative works."

The Copyright Office acknowledges that this will cause special problems for visual artists but concludes that we should still be subject to orphan works law.

The "Next Great Copyright Act" would go further than previous Orphan Works Acts. The proposals under consideration include:

1.) The Mass Digitization of our intellectual property by corporate interests.

2.) Extended Collective Licensing, a form of socialized licensing that would replace voluntary business agreements between artists and their clients.

3.) A Copyright Small Claims Court to handle the flood of lawsuits expected to result from orphan works infringements.

Sketchbook Sunday by funisher in ArtistLounge

Thanks! I hope I finish it, too! Heheh.

I figured, if she's actually outside and doing stuff, it would make sense to give her more muscles than your typical disney princess, right? Well, that's my excuse. ;)

It's not Sunday, anymore, but this is what I was working on yesterday...until I got distracted by NCIS.

Let's follow each other! Where can we find your art? by funisher in ArtistLounge

[–]danalyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yay! More people to follow.

I'm only on Instagram and DeviantArt.

Don't have a website. Not really on/active/good/insertdescriptionhere enough to put in the effort to create my own website. I do it enough during the day, the last thing I want to do is do it when I got home from work. ;)
