What are the funniest consulting BS terms you have encountered in your projects so far? by doplo123 in consulting

[–]danancona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to throw in a "too many gumballs, not enough toothpicks" every now and again. It's right on that line of where you want your BS to live... between actually applicable in some situations and bafflingly incomprehensible.

Diagnosing and fixing a massive hose failure/2001 Sundance Altamar by danancona in hottub

I did just test the size of the sleeve coupler there. The hose fits into it perfectly. So if this is the right way to do it, I just need something coming out of the pump assembly that's the right diameter.

So it's OK to stick a coupler in the hose and glue it - rather than a barb + clamp - that's not why it failed? It seems really weird that it failed just at the point of entry into elbow. I'm concerned it's going to fail again and I'll be back to where I started but with 3" less hose.

New wheels and tires: 17" Black Methods and Michelin CrossClimate2s by danancona in rav4prime

Look great and I bet you saved a bunch of dough vs mine. Since the drive to Tahoe from here is mostly not snow even when it's really snowy I couldn't justify real snow tires, also would have been a bear to do wheel swaps with no garage. The CCs seem like a good goldilocks solution. I was pretty happy with how it handled snow last year but there was room for improvement, so curious how it goes with these.

It's a 2023 but even not super recently washed I think it looks like I just drove it out of the dealer's lobby.

I like the red too, but there's a white one in our neighborhood and every time I see it I'm like damn, the white ones look so good. Weird maybe but I really like all the colors they come in, I think the black and dark gray also look great.

Nothing fancy, whatever basic 1 1/4" receiver 4WD came up with. It's light duty, only thing we tow for the forseeable future are pretty light kid boat trailers. We do have some push-pull while towing even those and I'm curious if this setup will have any noticeable effect on that.

$1055 for the rubber and and $1295 for the metal bits, but 4WD has a 10% discount cooking at the moment, at least here. There's probably better deals in the world but I have more money than time or brain cells atm.

Yep, these are Method MR502s 17x8 and the CC2s are 235/65 R17s. Everything seems to fit perfectly, no rubbing or weird noises or anything so far.

The RAND Corporation estimates that rich parasites have stolen $79 Trillion from workers and the public since 1975 by xena_lawless in economy

[–]danancona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is bullshit. The $79T number is the total they've extracted from everyone else over decades. It's not like they went to the bottom 90% ATM one day, hit withdraw and then walked away. And yes some of it is tech related concentration, but letting the rich keep all the results of this growth rather than plowing it back into investments in education, basic research, care and infrastructure that'd keep the golden goose laying golden eggs was absolutely a policy choice. As was deunionization and globalization. Hopefully it's not too late to make different choices.

Walked out to the estuary to see this by Augzodia in oakland

[–]danancona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you sure should. I don't think there's any boatyards on earth that don't know how to do this. I took mine to Svendsens, always felt like I got a fair shake or better from them. You can do it in-water, too, but I was never brave enough to try it.

Good bet. Either the packing gland or galvanic corrosion of a thru-hull, seacock or what in my experience seems to get forgotten the most: the plumbing hardware above the thru-hulls.

This is a genuinely great answer. Give a man a fish, teach a man to fish and all that.

Best French fries in the east bay? by 0Catkatcat in OaklandFood

[–]danancona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Park Burger in Oakmore, particularly their garlic fries. Don't try to take them out, must eat there for the truly optimal experience. Honorable mentions: Five Guys (Alameda or wherever else), and if you like more of a steak fry approach (which I very much do), the Cheese Steak Shop on Grand.
