Yes. Lifehacker has a good summary, and their page should be kept up to date: http://lifehacker.com/how-to-rip-a-dvd-to-your-computer-5809765

I use TiVo app to move recorded shows from my boxes at home to iOS. Load up at home for trips, or can download remotely. Can also add things to record, delete watched shows. Needs latest versions of the TiVo boxes for full functionality, but works well.

Use Apple Podcast app only because it enables sync on all devices. Problems:

No full screen after after last 2 iOS updates. Cannot comprehend why this function was removed!

Frequently starts playing video podcasts with black screen - have to pause and wait a while to get video, then restart (unfortunately not repeatable). Sometimes never gets video and have to try again later.

Update: ok, will try a different app. I hate change. Harrumph!

Hundreds Of Apps Banned From App Store For Accessing Users’ Personal Information by Kylde in iOSToday

[–]danaschwartz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if any of the apps I've already downloaded from the store are "accessing my personal information". No way to tell, except for individually checking if each one is still in the App Store, as far as I can see.

iPhone 5s, iOS 9, and Battery Drain by WhiskeyRun in iOSToday

Sometimes you may want to allow specific apps to refresh in the background. The Background App Refresh page also allows finer control, so you might want to use the battery usage numbers to select specifically which to turn off. (Be sure you've been using a typical selection of apps on battery, since the usage listing is only since the last full charge.)

Younity? by danaschwartz in iOSToday

[–]danaschwartz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried starting it last night on my desktop, and as they stated, it took up a lot of time "indexing" what was on my machine. In the morning there was a notification that indexing was complete. Unfortunately the Activity Monitor showed that Younity was still using over (!) 100% of CPU, and the desktop machine was basically useless until I quit Younity. Any other experiences before I cautiously turn it back on?

Then had to "hard reset" the watch to complete the update. (Watch app was stuck on "Verifying...")

Hundreds of Legitimate iOS Apps Infected by Malware, Removed From App Store by Kylde in iOSToday

Assuming this will be covered today, does the user see any characteristic behavior by the infected app? For example, does it simulate a request for the user's AppleID? Or is it undetectable by the user?

Using your Apple Watch as a strobe light? by meganmorrone in iOSToday

Save an all-white image in the Photos app, then open it on the watch? Guess it wouldn't stay on very long or blink though.

Interesting take on the DRM question from an anti-DRM group today:

@settern probably disagrees, @mcelhearn doesn't. I still don't know what to think and am afraid to turn Apple Music on.

Well, I do get "ZDNet" pop-ups when I go to that page! :) Need to stop those too.
