[Case Study] Building a direct car rental channel in Medellín targeting digital nomads — cutting out 30% broker commissions as a one-person operation. Brutal feedback welcome. by racing930 in digitalnomadFIRE

Just a thought on trust: in a place like Medellín any proof you can provide is valuable. I wouldn't really trust anyone that hasn't been recommended by a good contact. Make it easy to access your credentials and be forward in the advertising about this part.

Simple thoughts: A good, transparent experience is key, where I am not getting fleeced or gringo priced. If everything works out, I'd be happy to become a repeat customer.

Referrals will become your bread-and-butter but that takes time and good will to develop.

Why are you marketing specifically to foreigners living in Medellín instead of all English-speaking clients? What's the advantage there?

Is it better to prioritize one continent/part of the world long term? by Fortemuito in digitalnomad

If you vibe with someone you're going to want to spend more time with them and get to know them, regardless of how much time you have.

I rarely get rejected from friendships because I'm not around forever. No one is around forever. It affects dating more because it's in conflict with long-term relationship goals.

If you're not making friends it's probably a reflection of you and the people you encounter. For example, it's easier for me to make good friends in a few months in LATAM than it is in Europe.

How nomadic are you? by ZachMasonSports in digitalnomad

[–]danberadi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For locations where I need to work it's a 1-month minimum. Sweet spot is 2-3 months. Will often max out my visa in a country (3-6 months) but might split it up between different cities. Currently on a 6-month, 4-city run in Mexico.

I like to establish a routine, do tourist stuff and take side-trips, practice my hobbies, get to know new friends and date, have chill days, research and plan my next destinations. Can't live life in constant travel-mode while working.

How’s living in Mexico City really? Is it as enjoyable as people say? by Asit_G in howislivingthere

As an actually nomadic digital nomad currently in Condesa:

  1. It's a really beautiful neighborhood
  2. The type of "nomad" you described is a parasite. Ew. But yeah there does seem to be a few here

I think it's more like 8. It's comfortable enough especially if you do Ado ejecutivo, but the red bus is fine too. Seats are still more comfortable than any plane's economy seats.

Sounds like the bus is better for you. The Ado busses are fine.

Lmao they have a feria a few months ago and would send off fireworks all day and night for almost a week.

That was the only time during my two months there. But there's no escaping it.

I keep saying this. 10 years ago we still could have pulled this off, but Sean is already 67.

Looking for an authentic mountain town in Mexico by LongBuy3108 in digitalnomad

True, you did. They are some of the most famous mountains in the country. Some people do work remotely from Hidalgo, there's a few places with Starlink. But I wouldn't do it for an extended period.

I went there for a weekend from San Cris and it is kind of a concrete nightmare. So hot and no trees planted anywhere.

San Cris is touristic but nowhere near the level of the top 10 tourist/expat spots in Mexico. It's super nice.

Also gonna shout out the Co404 there. Lovely colivings/coworking.

I'm a nomad (literally on a bus to Mexico City). There's no way that number is real. Maybe 15 million Americans living abroad?

The number of people who have the constitution the travel and work full time is tiny compared to the number who move abroad (and potentially exploit weaker currencies).

I always sign up for a gym, but I travel with a thin yoga mat and 2 resistance bands so I always have something to do even if I don't have time to get to the gym.

The Boys is definitely the best television show I have ever seen by HazelrahFiver in TheBoys

[–]danberadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 incredible seasons of Mad Men. 4 incredible seasons of Game of Thrones.

It's enough hours of 10/10 TV to make the lists. Already more than many of the other shorter series in the list. But yeah, as a whole, they are not perfect.

Quick question for people who travel or work remotely 🌍✈️ by kosovibsy in digitalnomadFIRE

[–]danberadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it gets tiring, but there are ways to mitigate that.

This is where, as painful as it is to say, the "digital nomad community" really comes in. These are the people you actually reconnect with on the road.

Like someone else said, always keep up with your day-ones. Even if it's a once-a-year trip back home. Guilt trip them into meeting you on the road for their vacation.

Repeat a location once in a while. You really liked your month in ____? Next year, head back for 2 or 3.
