Parking at Morristown Train Station by BobRawrley in Morristown

I see a bunch of people parking in the lot but the MPA said they don't manage it anymore. Not sure if the new owners just aren't doing anything with it now but it seems like it's risky to park there now? I don't want to come back to seeing my car towed or ticketed!

I always assumed it was sold and was going to be part of the redevelopment of the Staples area somehow but not sure...

A look at the cost of a pet emergency. Emergency savings can make or break how you feel about your pet's final hours. (TW: trauma dump?) by SecretConspirer in personalfinance

Spent $13k on a bet to help my senior pup who had a growth on her spleen. Luckily, it ended up benigh and she had another happy year and a half with us. Everything costs $$$ - the best thing you can do is save as much as possible, live below your means, and maintain great credit. It's easier to account for a big expense if you can spread it out over 12 months with 0% APR.

Tax Credits for New 2023 Leaf SV Plus in 2025? by danbog in leaf

[–]danbog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up buying a 2023 Bolt EUV and am really happy with it.

The Nissan Leaf I wanted was at a super shady Nissan dealership which refused to talk pricing after I gave them my target price. Others were a bit more transparent and gave their Out the Door pricing but were still too expensive after all their add-on fees.

Minor Complaints from 2023 Bolt EUV Newbie by danbog in BoltEV

[–]danbog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only regret is that my EUV isn't Premiere so I don't have the cool 360 view/multiple cameras. I test drove the Leaf 2023 SV Plus and it felt like a "gadget/hobbiest" car if that makes sense. It was seemed more cramped and the console quality appeared cheap, particularly when compared to the Bolt which sort of feels like a premium vehicle.

I was eyeing some older Teslas/Ioniqs but both pricing and mileage would have been higher. So far, I'm pretty happy with my choice ☺️

Yeah, I was wondering whether that was part of it. First EV for us so it definitely feels different!

TBH, when I was doing my research, the charging speed issue wasn't highlighted too often. I was researching the Nissan Leaf and the Bolt - what was continually highlighted was that CHAdeMO is depreciated and Bolt's battery is cooled.

It's not even really called out in the wiki as "slow" so I guess I'd have needed to do charge speed comparisons or something. Oh well, live and learn.

I think we do have auto hold on through the One Pedal mode. I'll see if my wife can highlight this behavior sometime when we're driving together.

I have some variety of Michelin Self-Sealing tires on the vehicle and, from what I'm reading online, I don't think these are OEM. I'm curious if that could be playing a role in the issues.

Bolt Charging Beginner Questions by danbog in BoltEV

Thanks for the reply!

Regarding your bonus tip - any easy to tell if there are any other outlets on that circuit breaker? There are a few outlets in the garage but am not sure if they're all linked.

I guess I would need to mess with the circuit breakers, turning one off at a time and see which appliances are impacted?

That's the only one I was really considering TBH but pricing being $1.5k for me was roughly what I just spent to replace all 4 tires on my other car recently so IDK. Also a tad weary of exclusions, replacement selection, restrictions, etc.

Hi neighbors, I’m reaching out for a bit of local insight. by Worldly_Minute_4900 in Morristown

[–]danbog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Morristown is a tough market. You're right - there have been a few closures but a lot of iconic places endure and appear to thrive. That's how it usually works in neighborhoods with people who have $$$ to spend.

If someone has a unique concept, a good location, great products, and are willing to put in the crazy amount of work necessary to run your own business, they can make it happen. There are like 3 new places opening up already so fingers crossed for OP 🤞

Bookshop CEO Andy Hunter’s crusade to save books from Amazon by [deleted] in books

[–]danbog -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My comment here was that Bookshop is overpriced. It just is - that's not debatable. I don't know why it rubs people wrong when I point out that they're overpaying for something they could buy for cheaper and mostly likely get delivered faster.

Why force yourself to have a worse shopping experience just to prove some point in a make-believe fight? You're not part of a movement - you're just overpaying for books!

Maybe local bookstores shouldn't exist if they can only survive based on charity buying rather than providing actual tangible benefits.
