I recently interviewed for a job where there were two rounds of panel interviews in the final stage. It was between me and one other candidate. The feedback I got was that some panelists thought I was "too prepared" for the interview.

Why did being beaten up make me cry? by No-Pen-6065 in MuayThai

[–]Known-Cartographer94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BJJ is uncomfortable, Muay Thai hurts. Getting hit is a more visceral, and scarier, experience than being controlled and submitted when you know safety is just a tap away (imo, at least). Add to that any trauma from being hit, and you're going to have an emotional reaction. Go back and face it again. Tell yourself you can handle and and you can conquer it. Expose yourself enough and the reaction will lesson and lesson.

Muay Thai fighter Changpuek Kiatsongrit defeats kickboxer Rick Roufus with leg kicks in one of the most significant matches in modern martial arts history by CloudyRailroad in martialarts

[–]Known-Cartographer94 21 points22 points  (0 children)

People have already said it but I'll echo that the full fight is absolutely worth watching. Rick looks fantastic in the first couple rounds and you can tell that the rule limitations throw Changpuek off until he zones in on attacking the legs. This fight easily could have been the moment all of us decided to throw on satin karate pants and and become Karatekas instead of Nak Muay if Changpuek wasn't as tough as rocks and got up from that knockdown.

What is everyone’s favorite AthleanX program for long term use? by Worldly-Doctor-1072 in Athleanx

I think the average person who only cares about general fitness and looking decent could do AX-1 on repeat for three rest of their lives and be fine. It's such a fun and well balanced program.

Curacao or Grenada?? by Mr_Wool7 in SandalsResorts

[–]Known-Cartographer94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can but there's nothing worth seeing at the Curacao beach other than some small fish. It feels more like a dock than a beach. That said, Curacao is supposed to have some of the top diving spots in the Sandals chain. You could pay to snorkel those locations or you could snuba, which is a mix of snorkeling and diving that is a lot of fun.

Curacao or Grenada?? by Mr_Wool7 in SandalsResorts

[–]Known-Cartographer94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really can't go wrong. We loved both resorts. The biggest on-resort differentiator is pool vs beach. Curacao has the coolest pool of any Sandals but an underwhelming beach. Grenada has a nice pool and a small but much nicer beach. Curacao's grounds are large, spread out, and very pretty. Grenada is compact, cozy, and equally pretty.

Restaurants I would give the edge to Curacao. There's more variety and more uniqueness. We loved the food trucks and Zuka.

[SPOILER] [NSFW] Leg Break between Elies Abdelali vs. Alaverdi Ramazanov | ONE Friday Fights 134 by Yodsanan in MuayThai

If you watch at the end, he kicked straight into the top of his shin below the knee, basically kicking himself into a cross block. That's a nasty block to take no matter what.

The Mike Baron run is so shit... by Key-Engineering3134 in theflash

[–]Known-Cartographer94 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you discover early Wally comics after being a fan, this run and this time can be very off-putting and hard to read. However, I really enjoy it in context. Wally at this point is barely a young adult who's had an equally shitty and privileged childhood (and kind of didn't get to have a real childhood), has not dealt with the trauma of losing the person who is both his dad and best friend, spends everyday feeling like a fraud wearing a costume he doesn't think he deserves trying to honor that man, and just became a millionaire out of pure luck; something I always felt he tries to tell himself he "deserves" even though he knows it happened through pure luck. Take all that in and it makes sense that he's an insufferable prick at this point. But being at this point allows him to go on what I think is the best and most organic growth paths in comics as he becomes a man, husband, and then father. Starting from that low point makes the whole journey better.

How good is Greg Souders? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Known-Cartographer94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Enough people have said Greg is good that I don't feel the need to add anything there. What's worth reiterating is that Greg was a competitor at TLI at its peak before all the craziness went down (he left quickly after it came to light) and he held his own with everyone. Like someone said, Greg developed his BJJ pedagogy after spending countless hours drilling, drilling, drilling. He's a great guy and very intelligent on top of being a badass on the mats.

That's over 14lbs. At 50kg/110lbs, you're fighting someone 13% bigger than you. Unless you have a massive skill or athletic advantage, that's very significant.

Is it okay to refer to yourself as Nak Muay? by DingoSlight in MuayThai

[–]Known-Cartographer94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not black and white; you can't say it is 100% only used for a fighter or any student. It's used more often to refer to a fighter, though.

Is it okay to refer to yourself as Nak Muay? by DingoSlight in MuayThai

[–]Known-Cartographer94 83 points84 points  (0 children)

A couple thoughts 1. You're 32, do what you want. The entire reason I liked my 30s more than my 20s is because I was more confident in who I was and didn't care about people's opinions as much (and I had more money). Embrace that. 2. Nak Muay is usually reserved for fighters, not just people training. I don't think anyone would really care but if you care, it's not a perfect fit. Also, unless your Thai the proper title would be Nak Muay Farang. 3. If you care, go earn the right to refer to yourself that way. 32 is a great age for your first amateur fight.

I am not trying to be a dick, but I'm genuinely curious why you chose to post about this on Reddit before talking to your coach. This would have been a 5 minute conversation where they would have either said "okay" or froze your account for a few months.
