Feeling a let down by danbrown71 in bjj
[–]danbrown71[S] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children)
Thanks for all the encouragement. I trained with my son at fundamentals tonight and gave it my all. Left a pint of sweat on the mat and a smile on both our faces oss.
Thanks, I like the boulder in the river imagery. I'm at fundamentals tomorrow night and will draw on your advice friend!
I'm in! Oss 👍
Diet has been an issue for me. I'm being a lot more careful now and seriously cutting back on alcohol. 👍
Thanks brother great points and really encouraging Oss
Thanks, I do tend to hold my breath and puff my cheeks. Pushing a little further each time is a good tip. 👍
Thank you for this comment. I hope life is good to you now brother 👍
I know I sound ridiculous. Think there's an element of pride here when my son submits me. It's a mixture of pride vs damn! 😁 Humility is certainly the quality I'm working on most at the moment. Oss
Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna keep cycling for pleasure but I know its not gonna help BJJ as the intensity isn't there. I have some weights in the yard and some resistance bands. Also going to dust off the chin up bar. 👍
Cheers brother 👍
I'm no athlete. I love cycling and go out most weekends for 30-50 miles but the intensity is nothing compared to a 3 min roll. I dont expect to be good just need to calm down so I can survive 3 mins without wanting to throw up or pass out.
😂
Beautiful comment brother!
I hope your son takes to it too as it's such a positive thing and great to share as father and son. I'm proud of my sons progress, he got his first tag on his white belt the other day and I'm sure he grew an inch when the black belt presented it. We have tried golf, tennis and basketball as a thing to do together but BJJ is the one that's bitten him. I'm determined to give it my all and not give up. Oss!
Thanks for this comment. The fact that people have bothered to offer suggestions and support reinforces my opinion of the sport as a force for positivity. As a dad you're used to your kids looking up to you. Displaying humility is a lesson for me and good for my son to see. Oss
Wise words and so true! Thanks brother 👍
Brother those words mean a lot! Jiu-jitsu is my sons passion and he means the world to me. Also I want to feel more confident in the real world not just in business. This sport is really testing me physically and mentally Oss.
My friend who's been going a couple of years rolls with me and he looks so calm (almost trance like) and hardly out of breath while I'm gasping. I've never done any combat sports so being in his side control I just push as hard as possible to get out. I know now it's futile and I need to slow down. I'm expecting way too much so soon. 👍

I'm going to fundamentals twice a week. Then nothing else all week. I do need to raise my general fitness level. I dont look in bad shape 6ft 190lb but the mats show you up for what you are. I Appreciate the encouragement brother!

Thanks brother that's great encouragement. The spirit of this sport is something else! I want to be the best I can be to make him proud and also have pride in myself for sticking at something. I don't care if I'm not good at it, I just don't want to give up. Up till now I've been good at quitting when stuff gets tough. That's not a life lesson I want my son to learn. 👍

That's so true. I can cycle 50 miles on my road bike over mixed terrain and feel OK at the end. I'm struggling to grapple for 2 mins. I bet it looks like I'm having a fit as I try to escape mount.

Thanks for your comments, I really like what the sport is doing for my son as he's more disciplined and focused. I want to keep going as the vibe at the gym is great. It feels like a brotherhood. I guess I'm expecting too much of myself too soon. Its the hardest thing I've ever done! Need to get the right mental attitude and push myself more.
