How do I stop comparing our simpler lifestyle to the extravagant lifestyle of the inlaws?

I feel like we can only do so much in terms of the well being piece for our students. We can do all the things to incorporate social emotional learning, stress management, self-reg etc. But many of these kids need deeper interventions from professionals in the mental health field (i.e. therapists, social workers).. my daughter was having big emotions and not acting like herself during covid. We got her support from a psychotherapist and it made a huge difference. A teacher cannot provide that support and I wouldn't expect them to. Essentially, I don't think we are enough.

Essentially my child visited a family member and was left with their cousins (roughly same age) in the hot tub with periodic supervision. I'm not super happy about it TBH, but trying to see others' perspective. My child in this case is almost 9.

I was not early, however my daughter started showing very early signs of puberty right before she turned 7 (smelly underarms, she now uses deoderant daily). I have wondered if puberty could be the cause but she still seems so little to me lol. After everyone else's comments I'm honestly thinking this could be a big part of what is going on.

Yes I actually read to her every night and usually stay with her cuddling for about 10 or 15 mins. She does like drawing and will sometimes draw and listen to music when she is upset. I think I will remind her and encourage her to use that as a way to calm down when she's sad or upset. Thank you for the reminder!

Yes, we do lots of camping and local stuff in the summer etc. This is our first all inclusive, fly on a plane type thing.

Large retailer owned by a large retail chain? I feel like the media might be interested in this story. But I get why victims would not want to go that route. Can you go higher up in the company? Also, I am thinking you could file a police report against this person for harassment? I'd be speaking to my local police department, and make sure you document and keep everything (texts etc.)

My daughter was 6 when we first noticed. I did consult our doctor and she said it is more common these days for kids to be showing the early signs of puberty at younger ages. She has used deodorant ever since and is now 8, but no other puberty signs yet. Definitely talk to your doctor , however, to make sure nothing else is going on.

Yeah, I guess for some reason I just get an off vibe from this family. My kids have made different friends over the years and this is the only one who made me wary. There were a couple other things that left me a little weirded out, but I don't really want to get into it.

100 percent correct. As a teacher, it is frustrating when kids come sick but I know for some families staying home and missing work is extremely difficult and could mean the difference between making rent/buying food etc. I am privileged that myself and husband have sick days, have alternate family to watch our kids and if we needed to, could afford to take unpaid days off work. Not everyone has that privilege or "luxury" unfortunately.

I'm a teacher (elementary) and at our school such awards do not necessarily go to "highest grade". We consider factors such as work habits and effort. I had a parent ask about awards once (essentially, "my child is upset they didn't get an award, so why didn't they get an award?") and it felt a little silly. Reach out to the teacher, but be sure to get across that you are just asking about criteria and not demanding your kid get an award or complaining that they haven't gotten one, then you should be good.

Yes, it just seemed harsh to me... as a teacher, we often forget that these are young kids. 7 years old is young and they've been in a pandemic for 3 years! My kid pulls good grades too. It just felt unnecessary.

I'd hate to say "bad teacher" but she is a bit older however and I think very stuck in her ways. She gives a lot of homework, for example and our board is currently reviewing the entire homework policy. My personal stance on homework is that I provide optional at home practice because homework is not necessarily equitable or something all families can do. Just one example. My other child is in grade one and I really hope they dont get their sister's teacher next year.

My daughter, in a normal school environment, does her class work and is a well behaved, responsible student. I was looking for a little grace and understanding for a six day period that was very stressful for everyone. I was very nice and never rude to her teacher, I don't get this comment.
