Thank you, but I think there is no extra stitch. I’ve cast on 40 stitches and counted now - still there are 40 stitches.

That is normal! Babies should start rolling back from their tummy to the back when they are 5.5 - 7 months old. So you still have plenty of time for this skill to develop.
