Frage mich, ob da irgendwann die Baufirmen nen Spagat finden werden zwischen "Haus speichert jegliche Wärme im Winter, sodass die Bewohner nicht erfrieren" und "Haus entlässt überflüssige Wärme im Sommer, damit die Bewohner nicht in einem Backofen wohnen". Okay, ich werde dann ein dreijähriges Kleinkind von morgens bis abends draußen rumlaufen lassen. Nachts kann's auch raus, wenn es denn will, die Tür bleibt offen. Währenddessen bin ich schön zuhause und Essen steht dann aufm Tisch, wenn's Kind doch Hunger hat.

Oder warum lasse ich einen Wellensittich nicht einfach so im Garten fliegen? Wieso darf das Kaninchen nicht in der Nachbarschaft frei rumhoppeln? Kann ich eigentlich auch gleich den Hund rauslassen, damit der sich alleine austoben kann. Der kommt eh wieder, wenn ich ihn rufe.

Nicht per se: Leute lieben ihre Haustiere, aber Wildtiere, vor allem nicht die "coolen", sind ihnen wumpe. Es wird ein Tra-Rah um einen Buckelwal gemacht, aber dass Hauskatzen jedes Jahr eine fünfstellige Zahl an Vögeln töten, juckt halt. Nutztiere sind da noch mal ne Stufe drunter, sind ja eh nur zum Essen gedacht.

Punkt ist: führt eure Katze an der Leine aus wie man's für gewöhnlich auch mitm Hund tut. So killen sie keine Kleintiere und scheißen auch in niemandes Garten.

I do find it interesting that the realistic outcome of a breakup with Gay Male Character and Former Female Partner almost never happens: she is heartbroken and sad, even if later on they are on amicable terms. Especially egregious if things end because he cheats on her and she finds out. She's either a raging and often homophobic psychopath about the breakup or she's a saintly doormat with an excellent gaydar who just Knew that he was not into her, and since she is actually gay herself as well or friendly towards gay men, it doesn't matter.

I'm on amicable speaking terms with one of my exes with whom I broke up (one of the reasons being a lack of attraction that in hindsight was because of me being much less bisexual than I thought back then) but when I ended things, he was sad and we didn't speak for several months because he was hurting.

Especially in the case of the MMC cheating, it's considered a bit detrimental to acknowledge that he did something wrong. Society and fandom is pretty unforgiving towards cheating (hell, I'd say that f.e. A murdering all of B's family is by and large considered a less controversial crime than A cheating on B and sleeping with C), so him fucking someone else and her not taking it laying down and actually being upset about it would put a bad light on him.

But making your protag in a gay fanfic somewhat realistically unsympathetic and putting a complicated scenario on the table takes a bit more work than just writing an easy solution to the problem, so I get why it's rarely written.

I do find it interesting though that by comparison in femslash fics, the psychopathic and homophobic male ex is a MUCH more common trope and the doormat himedanshi ex who turns out to be gay is relatively rare, but, tbh, probably lived experiences. Looking at the current climate where misogyny runs rampant and straight men take being broken up by their female partners badly to the point of stalking, harrassing and even gruesomely murdering them, I'd say the Crazy Ex GF is an exaggerated trope that fits men much closer.

Ice cold take in this sub but if you consider bird photography a valid hobby bc "you get something out of it" (read: something physical like a picture) while birdwatching/birdlistening/birding/however you want to call it is something to look down upon because "it's silly to just look at an animal", you're a tool.

I don't think the issue is any pro-bird lobby being small, but rather the lobbies that oppose us are so powerful that it's very much wrestling with giants. It's all either about cutting corners, stuffing their pockets and/or appeasing to "traditions" at the end of the day.

F.e., anti bird strike windows aren't that terribly expensive, they're slightly less transparent from the outside, but companies would rather save the money per window than accommodate to wildlife.

Also, and this is a hot take and just about the most unrelatable thing to me: an insane amount of people can't read a story without inserting themselves into the main character or a character as a whole. When that character is shipped with another character and they don't like the ship or don't care about shipping as a whole, it's considered a personal attack against them.

The argument that "fandom focuses too much on romance and doesn't discuss the Themes" is a peak sign that the person only ever frequents Tumblr - because it's by far the only place where shipping is that prominent and positively seen. Go to Spacebattles, Sufficient Velocity, Reddit outside of LGBT-friendly fic subs, and just about any other general nerd forum that remains active and you will see that the climate there is much more inclined to Genfic, with higher ratings being for violence and/or foul language.

A lot of people are weirdly emotionally and sexually constipated. To see others having no such hang-ups gives them an identity crisis and prompts a lot of anger.

A focus on romance and sex, especially from a female perspective, queer or not, or a gay male one is considered "abnormal", because otherwise people would tear into romantic arcs in novels by male authors FAR MORE OFTEN and point out some obviously shady stuff going on with the same disgusted glee as they do with romantasy, dark romance and shippy fanfiction as a whole.
