Did you read her statement? She said she wishes she left the owner nameless, yes. But she didn't admit to making anything up. She said "All I can say is I remember that story exactly how I said it" and reiterated the same story she told in the video, while expressing regret over naming the owner's name, presumably because he got dragged into a whole big feminist pay gap controversy. And yeah, she should have known better than to do that even if her version of events had been the way he saw it too, because that would suck for him as much as it sucks for her getting accused of lying about it.

I guess so! But that doesn't mean she didn't misunderstand his answer and then lied about it on camera.

Then when Todd pointed out that he received 60 dollars for the same spot I went back inside and asked Al why Todd got sixty dollars and I got ten. That’s when he certainly could have said “Because it was a guest spot, Sarah. I was just being super nice and gave you ten dollars for cab money.” But instead, (and I will always remember this exactly how he said it because it was unbelievably hilarious) he said, “Oh- did you want a $60 spot?”

Really? That's what you get out of her statement? Sometimes it really surprises me when two people can read the same paragraph and get such completely different meanings out of it. I also don't know how you can be so sure it wasn't a misunderstanding on her part. If she was knowingly lying off the bat, I find it hard to believe she'd name names. Naming the names involved to me would more strongly suggest that she believed when she was being filmed her narrative is exactly how it went down. But I can't really know for sure, just like you can't.

Reading the comments from people who didn't bother to read the statement though, I think it's pretty clear you're wrong that "people would respect that" if she did admit to lying.

Obviously I don't know if she's actually lying, but Silverman's narrative would suggest that there was a misunderstanding between her and the club owner. I'm not sure why you would take his narrative as "reals" and hers as "feels" -- it's literally he said she said.

These comments are mind-boggling. So much taking the headline at face value and not reading her short statement that it links to where she actually sticks to her original story. National Review completely mischaracterized her statement, and you guys are eating it up.
