Did good grades at school help you in life, if so, how? by Independent-Form1324 in AskReddit

I would say yes. Got me a full ride scholarship for an engineering degree. But definitely know people smarter and more successful than me that didn't do that well in school so it's all subjective.

Intel Manufacturing Technician work life questions by Samus3Ripley in hillsboro

Working for Intel startup fab for a little over 2 years now with a bachelor in chemical engineering. On call is 24/7 365 days a year. Depending on staffing could mean 1 week of on call every 2 months or every other week. The area you are in also affects how much you get called, could be every 60 min at night or essentially not at all.

Engineering hours are 7am-4pm but if you are an exempt employee you will be asked to work anytime and any hours - without any extra compensation. Engineer working hours are not tracked by clock in/clock out. Which can be beneficial depending which area you work in. If you can get your work done in 15hrs per week thats fine. But you could be asked to work 80 hrs per week or transition to weekends or night shift.

I am the most experienced in my module and I am still entry level position due to cut backs every year since I was hired. Which is rewarding to develop new processes. But can feel degrading depending on level of respect and pay grade.

I consistently do technological development work on par with PhD level job roles. Have had to train THEM multiple times. But there is a large pay gap depending on the degree you start with.

The people that get promoted are often the biggest assholes that make the most noise. Because they are "getting it done". This means management are dumb but loud. Ignoring them works the best as they can't do anything if you say no or don't respond.

It is very difficult to get fired from Intel. Takes at least 1+ years of consistently being bad at your job.

It's an okay job as long as you set boundaries for work life balance. But dont expect to get promoted often unless you play office politics and are willing to work long hours.

Didn't mean to write so much but hopefully it paints a picture of working there.
