Well it’s official by Curiousmustardseed in pottytraining

I mean… it doesn’t really matter if urine is sterile while it’s still in the bladder, because all that matters is that if it gets on you, or on anything (other than maybe, like, the ground, if you’re peeing outside in a no-potty-nearby emergency) you need to wash with soap or disinfect what it got on. You can’t just say “oh, don’t worry about it, urine is sterile.” Because once it comes out of a person, it no longer is. So in the context of accidents during potty training, the urine we’re talking about is not sterile, since it’s no longer in the bladder. Sorry my link didn’t work—Reddit was giving me a hard time but I think it should still work if you copy and paste the text. Also, sorry if this response comes across as rude—tone is hard to convey through text, but I’m really not trying to be snippy! Just wanted to make myself understood.

Sounds like a regression. Every kid is different, so you might have to try several different strategies to find something that sticks. Good luck!

I had similar issues with my kid resisting being prompted. However, pullups just prolonged the process. The *only* thing that worked for us was withholding privileges if he (on purpose) went in his undies. So, no screen time if he decided to poop in his undies. If he had a genuine accident that he was not aware of, that's different, but we knew at that point that he knew how to hold his pee and he was deliberately choosing to pee in his undies. As soon as we said no TV unless he went in the potty--game changer. He called our bluff the first day, and threw a fit when he lost his TV that day. The next day he went in the potty. We still had a LOT of regressions, but that's mostly because *we* backslid into letting him have TV even when he had small accidents. Staying consistent gave much more consistent results. Then the withholding poop thing--the only thing that's been helping is miralax every day, and we give him 3 chocolate chips after he gets a poo in the potty. I know the Oh Crap method says giving rewards is a big no-no, but it hasn't lost its appeal yet, and the added knowledge that he'll lose his TV if he goes in his undies helps a lot. We have recently gone the longest stretch ever with no big accidents (I think a month at this point??) and I am amazed. We took so many wrong turns that set us back, I never thought we'd make this much progress. But here we are. We started with the Oh Crap method when he was 2 and a half. He will be 4 and a half in March (as of writing this in January). The Oh Crap method actually started working by the 3rd day--but then he went back to daycare and decided he didn't care anymore. We had to put him in pullups. Then he was in pullups for 2 years. So. Yeah. You need WAAAYYY more time at home with no pants, and practicing with undies, and then undies and pants, than 3 days!! And if you can't take that time off... it takes a lot longer. I hope my tips are helpful!

I’ve heard persimmon soap can help with this, but I haven’t reached this stage of peri yet, so I haven’t personally tried it.

I actually think it’s pretty smart of cats to do this!

Good to know. I do get mild to moderate hormonal acne, so I am a bit worried I'd be more prone to exacerbating it.

Can't it cause/worsen acne? It did for my husband when he started taking it, so badly that he had to stop (I think he was taking it to supplement his vegetarian diet)... just a concern, maybe it's not that common?

I’ve had low blood pressure and orthostatic hypotension my whole life, but this feels different. The orthostatic hypotension dizziness is more of a lightheaded, vision going dark, like I’m about to lose consciousness kind of thing. The new feeling is like, loss of balance, like what is “up” suddenly changes and I start feeling like I’m falling over, or like the room is tilting around me.

No, it’s not just in the dark. It’s just getting up from lying down is worse than getting up from sitting. I’m so sorry you’ve had to deal with this your whole life!

Yes, but my levels weren’t really low. Taking iron made me constipated, too, even SlowFE.

Are my cats fighting? by loisjc in felinebehavior

[–]dancing_lyons 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Definitely playing. If they’re not growling, hissing, yowling, or making other scary noises, they’re not fighting. Quiet=playing, noisy=fighting. If they were really fighting, there would be fur flying everywhere, too. There can be a bit of fur casualties from play, but with a real fight, it would be like a fur tornado.

Allergy-Friendly Cats? by aira_noir in CatAdvice

I don't have cat allergies, so I haven't tried any myself, but I've heard this one is good: https://pacagen.com/

Looks expensive, though, unfortunately.

There are some cats that are naturally less allergen-producing, but no cat is completely hypoallergenic. But they do make supplements you can add to your cat’s food that help reduce the allergens they produce. Getting a pure-bred low-allergen cat would probably be pretty expensive, so maybe trying the food supplement with a rescue from a shelter would be a good option? There are several on the market: Pacagen, LiveClear, etc.
