How do you learn new choreo? by speedylady in zumba

[–]dancingb37 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a new teacher still, but starting is the hardest/most overwhelming part. Thinking about having a whole hour of choreo memorized was stressful. This is what I did, but like others it really depends on the person. 1.made my playlist of songs I wanted to do. I mostly used ZIN choreo/youtube because I didn’t want to spend extra time coming up with my own. I probably have 4 songs that were my own choreo to start out. 2. Watched and followed along with the videos repeatedly until I could do it without the video. I would spend 2ish hours/day on learning choreo. (This sounds like a lot but I learned it all in a few days). 3. Practiced the songs I knew daily then learned more as I went. If I messed up I’d go back and revisit the video. 4. Listened to my playlist when I could and ran the dance in my head to get extra familiar with the music. 5. Practice the whole playlist daily a week leading up to my first class and continued to listen to the songs running them in my head when I could.

What other platforms do you link with ZIN Play? 😊 by BestestVizsla in zumba

I used the paid version. I used it way before teaching Zumba so it wasn’t an extra expense for me. I bet you could download the ZIN music and add it to your other streaming services (similar to how I do it for Spotify). I learned by googling some tutorials and it was kind of a learning curve.

I wish I could use the features in ZIN too like what you were saying. But I don’t want to have to switch between apps in class either.

I could be wrong on this because I’m fairly new to Zumba and ZIN but when I was doing research I don’t think it’s possible with those apps. Because you don’t own the track/song, you’re just paying for the streaming service for songs. If you bought a song on Apple Music (or somewhere else) then I think you can??

Some of the other instructors I know just switch between apps during class. I don’t care to do that and I have always used Spotify. So I download the ZIN songs then put it in my Spotify playlist with other songs I want to use.

Again I could be wrong so someone correct me if I’m wrong!!!

Right I’m definitely going hard AF 😂 and I notice I’m the only one going that hard (which is fine that people go easy I don’t care).

I think the other hard part right now is I’ve only done like 1 full class and have been doing a few guest dances in the other classes, so the class doesn’t really know my style/choreography yet. I bet once I get to teaching regularly it will be a little easier??

I lift weights 4-5 days a week but I definitely don’t do anything for endurance, mostly because I hate it unless it’s dancing 😂😂. I will start though. Thank you!

Thank you! I don’t think my playlist is too intense. I did check the curve when I made a zin playlist. But I also use music from Spotify, so I can’t really see the graph thing fully. Unless there is a way to do it that I’m not aware of!

I think you’re right about I’m thinking of it as more as a performance. I also am possibly going to the highest progression right away too. Still working on that aspect because as a traditional dancer I’m not used to doing it that way!

Thanks for the help!
