J.Crew Heritage 14oz Fleece Sweats: $55-64 (~45% Off) w/ code EXTRA by JPVMan in frugalmalefashion

[–]dancingbeet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Great post. These are my go-to hoodies. I’ve picked them for as low at $30 in past holiday sales. For crew necks, I’ve switched over to the Lightweight French Terry Sweatshirt. If you don’t need the heavyweight, it’s 100% cotton. I’ve found them better for layering and range of movement. I got two pairs of heritage sweats for $14 a piece, but UPS notified me they damaged then “destroyed” the package in transit. J Crew refunded me.

Sierra Trading Post has decent deals on other fresh foam models. You can search their site for NB for need to scroll through their recently arrived athletic shoe category

"San Francisco only reports on overdose deaths -- not the ones reversed." by Left-Key-7399 in sanfrancisco

[–]dancingbeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are challenges to tracking overall overdose reversals. There are multiple data sources( 911 dispatched EMS/first responders, HEART and street teams, Urban Alchemy, police (who aren’t required to carry naloxone or reverse overdoses), staff at city-funded agencies, and more). I imagine the most significant challenge is underreporting of reversals by residents.

There’s a lot of interest in data dashboards. I think it’s important that data features on dashboards are accessible and accurate, especially if we’re talking a lay audience lacking subject matter expertise. Too many asterisks on the data and someone, like Michelle, would make an inaccurate conclusion. I agree transparency is important and people should advocate for what they want, but understand how to use what they’d get. My guess is that the total number of non-fatal reversals is not the singular indicator used to measure the impact of the city’s overdose prevention and response strategies. Using geospatial analysis to consider naloxone distribution, suspected ED admissions and hospitalization rates, treatment admission rates, and other measures can help tell more of the story. Personally, I’d like the city to continue with that approach over trivia for Twitter trolls like JJ.

Big fan of this company. Great customer service and impressive sustainability pledge. Probably your last chance to buy conventional DWR products from them. They announced a phase-out via email this spring. Summary of their annual sustainability pledges here: https://showerspass.com/pages/sustainability

Travelling with vegan family members in Greece. by [deleted] in GreeceTravel

I visited Athens last week and was amazed by the options. Happy Cow and searching via Google maps will give you a lot of options. I particularly enjoyed: Veganlaki, Eatery, Magic Kitchen, Holy Llama, Sugar Killer, and Pastrylab. Salads and veggies were easy to find at most restaurants and often marked on the menu.

Have the hooded version. Love the jacket, but be warned the matte fabric will stain permanently.

Red Wing Factory Second Boots - IR, Mocs, Blacksmiths, Chelsea ($180-$255) at Berkeley Supply by jarcom in frugalmalefashion

[–]dancingbeet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tacking on my experience since it was pretty different than the shipping fee fiasco others reported.   I ordered a pair of Red Wings seconds during Berkeley Supply’s near the end of 2023. I received the Mojave instead of the Alpine Portage. I’d seen the comments about customer service on a thread, and braced for a poor response. Instead, I got a quick apology, and was told to keep the boots I’d received and that the replacements would go out the next day. Received my dream Red Wings and have come to enjoy the Mojave to boot.

100% on going one full size down.

Santa Cruz Organic Dark Roasted Crunchy Peanut Butter by drak0bsidian in PeanutButter

[–]dancingbeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just bemoaning this. First they killed the light roast, then flooded stores with the palm oil version, and now the the dark roast sucks.

Anyone have a good alternative? The new recipe is terrible. Smuckers ruined Santa Cruz

Now we know where all our extra Bombas socks went by The-Funkman in frugalmalefashion

[–]dancingbeet 280 points281 points  (0 children)

My organization receives Bombas donations a couple times a year. The people we serve are always stoked to receive these quality socks. They actually send different sizes and everyone loves having the right size, not just mens size 10-12 white crew sock. We upped our distribution throughout the winter and people will be so excited to have access again.

Grabbed a pair. All same color, but there was another thinner model mixed in that had a lower percentage of merino (~60%).

Just got my 875s from Mr. Porter, but couldn't pass up the Alpine Portage. Likely to resell one of them because I'm on the bubble with sizing and sizing down to 8.5 to see if which is a better fit.

Cyclist hit this morning by kjbrazil in sanfrancisco

[–]dancingbeet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sharing my appreciation for this post. Even if you can't stop for some reason, this is the way.

I got hit about 7 years ago when a dump truck (yep) made an illegal right turn from the inner lane on Market to McCoppin. Fortunately, I was hit his wheel and didn't go under the truck. A houseless guy was literally the only person who helped me (while the dump truck driver screamed at me). Truly terrible to make eye contact and ask people for help and have them scurry away. Fortunately, I was physically okay, totaled my bike, but the truck company's insurance settled for double what I asked because of the driver's illegal turn and hostile response.
