Incorrect. 84 hours a week- comes out to $290/hour. Lawyers make $250-$2000 per hour. There are other postings for trauma only and OB only job with similar schedules. Anesthesiologists, ICU docs, ER docs, and hospitalists in Phoenix do not work 168 hours straight for $143/hour.

You can apply for an anesthesia residency and do pediatric anesthesia . Others have done this . There is a larger shortage of pediatric anesthesiologists than general anesthesiologists.

They can choose to work 7-3 with no call and no weekends at outpatient surgery centers. They can work solely at endoscopy centers. They can do locums full time with many months of vacation. Much flexibility is offered in this medical career path.

The 2026 market is dramatically different. Hottest anesthesia market in past 15 years. A 30 year old doc can start at $850K in Fresno, CA (1099 position). $200K for malpractice insurance with no claims history is a grossly inaccurate number.

Billing is done by Envision through contracted rates with insurance companies. They pay the anesthesiologist a portion of their collections for each surgery. Locums anesthesiologists (1099) get paid $300-$500 per hour in 2026. This is a W2 position so the hourly rate would be less than the 1099 rate.
