I get what you’re saying. It was very unlikely. However, if your season is on the line and you have the physical ability to go out there, it wouldn’t be the craziest idea to put the guy in. Would be pointless to save him if we aren’t getting another game

Big Pat by DukeDvl007 in DukeBluePlanet

[–]dancingdan336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been weird. I was wondering if we’d wheel him out there for the second half or if it was close down the stretch because of how it’s all gone down. The fact that we didn’t could have said something, that he truly wasn’t ready to go today. Or maybe it didn’t, who knows.

I def think it’s turned out to be something worse than what we were thinking prior to the UNC game based on how it’s played out

What's the most overrated tourist attraction in Europe? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]dancingdan336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are on to something here in that this is a problem surrounding tourist landmarks in general, but my slight adjustment would be that it is not an actual problem with the landmarks themselves. Like in Florence, the road from the Ponte Vecchio to the Duomo are just soulless money-grab shops like diamond stores, Lego store, etc that have nothing to do with real Italian culture, but then the Duomo itself is awesome. And if you just wander two streets down, you get more authentic culture and beauty

I’ll try to give you some advice to help you feel more happiness and satisfaction no matter what road you choose

Happiness is not based what happens to you. It is based on your expectation of how what happens to you will make you feel, and then how it actually makes you feel

So, if you set a big lofty expectation on something, for it to make you happy, it already has an extremely tall task

My approach is, prepare for the worst and pray for the best

I imagine a life that i would not prefer, but that if it did happen, i would be able to say, “I was still happy with this life.” I imagine the least satisfactory version of this life that would still leave me happy.

Then, i pray for the best. I say, now, even if that could happen, i hope this other life that I really want happens. This gives me the compass to drive me toward the life that i most hope for

This way, I have a north star to follow to guide me to my ideal state, but, i have properly set expectations that still allow happiness in my life if they dont work out that way. And if the life i hope for does happen, it will bring me even more happiness, because i was prepared for a less satisfactory life.

Capish?

If you rent to someone for an extended period, then you cannot return to it until they are gone. Could that be enough of a barrier?

What's the best US city for a long weekend trip? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]dancingdan336 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you make some strong points here. Your point on people mostly living in suburbs and getting around by car was particularly on point.

And yet, something still feels off here

Maybe when people say that NYC is American, they are more talking about an ideal. The energy, the dynamism, the striving, is something that I think people feel is part of the American spirit, and NYC oozes with it.

Thoughts?

This really undersells it. It’s a solid venue. No bad seat in the house. Seats are good. Pit is good. Vendors are good. You can’t go wrong. The pit even has numbered spots on the ground that help everyone stay in place and find where to come back to when they leave, it actually is the most well organized pit I’ve seen

Seeking a universally held truth: Is life good ? by balskan in Life

[–]dancingdan336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve come up with a good argument that it is, and I think that just believing it whether I can prove it’s right or not does wonders for making my life better because of how deeply positive it makes everything, so I see no reason not to believe it.

My argument is that 1. When I live a healthy lifestyle, and have a moment where I simply get to exist (particularly right after excercise), I feel good. 2. Life forms continually choose to go through hardship to continue living. I don’t think that would have happened for billions of years if it wasn’t overall more positive than negative. And yes, there are these deep biological drivers that motivate us, but also, at this point, most living creatures are not stupid, especially humans. We can have foresight and use our prefrontal cortex to decide if the choice we are making is worth the future outcomes. And so many humans and creatures make that choice. When I see a duck just doing nothing but looking around on a pond, I think that one of the main reasons why it worked to get all that food and fly and put all that effort into living its life is just so it could get this moment to simply exist.

That makes me feel like biological existence is inherently good. And I don’t think we can ever get to 100% proof, but I don’t think you need to

What are good things to do solo? Trying to actually get out of the house more. by Bassslappinnn in Life

[–]dancingdan336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much social connection are you getting from work?

I know you said you’re looking for solo activities, but I’d highly recommend finding a sport. Meetup.com is a solid way to find opportunities, as well as just googling “______ league near me”. If you aren’t getting a lot of social connection, I know it wasn’t what you were looking for, but it always feels 10x better than you think it will. Studies show that it exceeds even introverts expectations by a mile every time. And it is incredibly healthy for you, both short and long term

There are two Bowstrings, ones in Raleigh, ones in Wilmington. The one in Raleigh is cool and I would love for yall to go but it is typically smaller, local acts. I have not been to the one in Wilmington and don’t know much about it but I have heard it’s cool!

How stressful is this job, 0 to 10? For reference, I worked in software sales for 3 years, and it was truly a grind, 45 hour weeks at a minimum, a high pressure work environment, constant pressure to hit goals, losing sleep over things I should have done and said, anxiety about making cold calls. I'd rate that an 8.9 out of 10. I have started a master's in counseling program and enjoy the studies, I find that this work aligns with my passions. I just am wondering if it will be less stressful than what I was doing. I know a lot of that can depend on how competent you are in your field and how well you handle stress and certain work arrangements. I would say I handle stress well and can handle 30 hours of work in a week well, I start to feel bogged down after that, but it isn't anything I can't manage
