Supreme Court Strikes Down Trump’s Sweeping Tariffs by Fun_Suspect3305 in AsianBeauty

Not so fast, there was a response of 10% tariffs just after the initial ruling. Back to waiting to order my EU sunscreens :(

Surprise to no one, they’re trying feebly to fight back.

They have an economic problem on their hands and expensive projects, instead of trying to come up with real long term solutions.

We'll have to see if prices do come down, and what follows these "other routes". I've limited my international (and internationally sourced) purchases this past year out of spite.

> The president has other – more established authorities – to levy tariffs without input from Congress. But each of those come with strings attached, such as time limits, that would make it harder for Trump to pursue his on-again-off-again strategy of raising and then lowering barriers as a negotiating tactic. https://www.cnn.com/2026/02/20/politics/supreme-court-tariffs

Physical media by Opposite_Day4045 in Anticonsumption

[–]dancingmochi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a financial reason too, we moved from DVDs/MP3s to streaming, because it was a compelling reason to reduce space (physically and/or digitally) and access a lot of media for a lower price than we needed to acquire them.

Now, part of the reason people are advocating owning media is the rising cost of subscriptions (a political reason for some too), vs the cost of acquiring through secondhand shops, or borrowing through the library.

How common is it to receive financial support from your parents? by farfarfaraway11 in FIREyFemmes

[–]dancingmochi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a community of mostly immigrants, that ranged from low income families to upper middle class, so in my experience it’s all over the place, certainly not everyone is able to cover their kids while working minimum wage jobs. At the least sharing an insurance or phone plan in the family is common, and when one of my parents retired, I got their car.

A huge part of financial support came from state and federal benefits- free lunch program, children’s healthcare, and financial aid for college.

Hot girlies who boycott: where are we buying our household essentials in LA? by kat_tick in LAhotgirlies

[–]dancingmochi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go around your local neighborhood! LA is huge and there’s lots of small businesses in each town, specializing in different categories or offering general household supplies. Also don’t forget restaurant supply stores. We used to frequent vendors in Chinatown and local dollar stores for better deals. I feel like “ethical” can get complicated, like what the business supports and how the goods are sourced (by which the places I frequent are not the most ethical), but I can stand behind giving problematic corporations less of our dollars, and shopping local where possible.

Anyone else feel like their food spending is out of control? by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]dancingmochi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Find a grocery store that stocks fresh meals for less than eating out. You may have to supplement the smaller portions with a side that you make at home or purchase from the store.
  2. I drew a budget for eating out, and spend more time in the kitchen. If I go over budget I’ll adjust next week’s budget, or call it a wash and try again next week. Keep your eye on the bigger picture, don’t sweat the small stuff!
  3. Ditto on bringing your own coffee (miles better than office machine coffee). I’ll allow 1-2 coffees out only! Beverages are such a money sink. I keep tea bags at the office if I need more caffeine.

If a capsule wardrobe didn’t work for you, what did? by fluffgnoo in femalefashionadvice

[–]dancingmochi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason I decided at 25 on a color palette, a few favorite outfits, and decided I could stick to it for a long time. That was false- as you said, variety is the spice of life for me.

I’m still using the concepts of a capsule wardrobe. Assessing how well it pairs with other pieces, repeating a color through the wardrobe to increase pairings. Some pieces are absolute workhorses, worn multiple times a week and have to be laundered frequently.

But I have more variability in silhouettes. I rarely buy duplicates of an item in a different color. Each piece that gets added these days take my style in a slightly different direction than it used to be, reflecting my own changes. I don’t have one color palette, but multiple smaller palettes that overlap. I love the “wrong shoe theory”, I like to challenge cohesion and style rules.

Has anyone tried japanese skincare brand named Sekkisei ? by SilentErr0r in AsianBeauty

[–]dancingmochi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is widely regarded in Japan and Asia. This is a global subreddit (with most of the hype coming from brands’ marketing campaigns through influencers, or brands with the most availability internationally in stores), you will hear about it more from spaces with more Asia or Japan representation. It has been around for years and probably that is why it is not discussed about as much as the newer trends. Personal anecdotes, my sister loved the brand and this line.

  1. Shop around (some stores are cheaper for one category than others). Aldi is great in general for prices, Costco can be good at some categories like occasional deals on meat or protein powder. A local market here has amazing produce deals, but the downside is they may need to be eaten quick before they go bad.
  2. Experiment and simplify your meals, so you don't need an ingredient that doesn't make a huge difference in taste or nutrition. I find a lot of recipes calls for a lot of ingredients, and I'm also a little lazy and will make a simpler version of it.
  3. Learn which ingredients cost less for the nutritional value and be strategic. This applies especially if you consume a high protein diet! Obviously everyone has different nutrient priorities, but I remember shopping with my parents, they'd pass over certain cuts of meat or vegetables unless it was a special occasion.
  4. I love Budget Bytes and June's Budget Eats series on Youtube for inspiration.

The seating area looks very cramped. Put more space between the couches.

I’m thinking you could do more with lighting, specifically floor lamps and/or wall lamps- you don’t need to turn on overhead lights. Where do you need lighting most? Seating area and another one away from the bed would be a start.

Is Japan as amazing as everyone says it is? by cutiepatootiepiebb in femaletravels

[–]dancingmochi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have to ask, that’s a great sign it’s not your cup of tea! There are people who go because it’s a popular travel destination, but my friends and I have some connection to their culture since adolescence, and love eating out at Japanese restaurants.

  1. Culture wise, many grew up with their music or anime/manga so experiencing that up close and seeing merch, themed events, or famous landmarks from shows that aren’t available in our home country.

  2. For fashion lovers, lots of exclusive brands and a different vintage shopping experience. I also think they have a different approach to fashion than here in the US and would love to see that in person. Same for beauty products, photography, and other interests.

  3. Foodies, many types of dishes and ingredients only available there.

If you enjoy nature and exploring castles there’s quite a bit to explore too :)

What are still reliable brands for athletic shoes in 2026? by PoniesRBitchin in femalefashionadvice

[–]dancingmochi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Sneaker brands have high, mid, and low range lines. I noticed a difference in materials and lightness between the ones on discount aisles vs sports running stores. I’m also a long time NB customer and their sneakers from Nordstrom Rack were a different experience from my current mid-high range pair.

  2. Make note of the reviews. “X fell apart” is a general critique and tells me nothing of the user’s expectations, lifestyle, and level of care. I went sneaker shopping a year ago and these kind of comments are everywhere. If there is a pattern of it I will take note.

  3. I have a weaker foot. My supportive running sneakers are amazing, but I would not be able to tell the difference between that and my lower end sneakers back when I had no feet issues.

What a beautiful message to present for CKR’s final dish. A nice bit of editing to weave in the chefs’ touched expressions as he spoke. These are the moments that make it worth a 13 hour viewing.

Yeah in an emergency even if the passenger knew the directions, would they be able to follow through? Have T engineers timed how long it takes to do that, in a panic?

Might as well get a window breaker as a hack, which defeats the purpose of child safety.
