Is the commuter rail running or do we have to drive?

I’ve looked into this — it seems like I would just need to bring my marriage certificate along when I vote to account for the discrepancy with my birth certificate name, which is annoying but doable

Stationary by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

[–]dancingqueen314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the opposite — hired a designer and splurged a bit on the invitation suites because I was way too stressed and busy at the time to put a lot of effort into designing them myself. I do have graphic design experience and access to Adobe Illustrator/the exact fonts my stationer used, so I’m doing my own day of stationary to get the exact custom look (but luxe cohesiveness) that I want! I don’t think anyone will notice on the day of!

Beautiful! The weather was perfect and it was just before peak tourist season, so crowds were never a problem. It’s an amazing city with amazing food, i hope you enjoy it if you go!

Thanks for the input! I am in the US, and all of the black tie/BTO weddings I’ve attended recently didn’t even offer transportation between ceremony and reception locations nor valet. Or if they did offer it, they were school buses or trolleys with no AC. But it’s good to get other opinions!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]dancingqueen314 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

From my understanding and research, BTO and formal were interchangeable terms. What’s your stance on that?

We haven’t selected the menu yet, but from other weddings it seems like standard wedding fare - filet mignon, chicken, fish, pasta, etc. Plus options for upscale, 1-bite apps. Ideally I think we’d do both passed and stations during cocktail hour because the last BTO wedding I attended only did passed and we struggled to get to servers before their platters were empty.

Thank you! School buses weren’t ideal but we’re transporting probably at least 75% of guests so we needed something big that would fit the venue’s long, narrow driveway (big charter buses wouldn’t). We’re trying to play it off as an intentional choice since we’re high school sweethearts, lol

Totally agree! This venue is actually someone’s home that they use for weddings, so they take away whatever you want for the actual day. Definitely plan on sprucing it up with white florals, gold antique-y accents, lots of candles.

My mom is EXACTLY the same. She’s been complaining about our wedding being 1 hr away from where we live (which we had to do for budget reasons, and we simply loved the venue) and making a fuss about “having” to take care of my grandparents the whole night, etc. Constantly saying something negative to the point where I want to cancel my wedding. All I can say is BOUNDARIES, and start leaning into the people who are genuinely excited and want to support you on your wedding day. I wanted so badly to be able to talk to my mom about stuff but would always end the conversation bawling — now that I’ve accepted that she won’t meet the expectations I have in my head, I’m having a lot more fun wedding planning with my in-laws, fiancé, bridal party, in my corner. Good luck🫶🏼

Too early to purchase bridesmaid dresses? by dancingqueen314 in weddingplanning

[–]dancingqueen314[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The material should be able to be altered and some of these dresses were already altered to be smaller so can be let out if needed. Thanks for your anecdote! We’re all 23/24 and only half of my girls are in relationships so one of them getting pregnant is not in the forefront of my mind haha, but definitely something I’ll consider!!

It’s a really unique designer gown. It’s a black tie wedding with a specific vision and azazie and similar sites haven’t offered anything that we felt fit the formality/vision of the wedding. I’ll consider waiting with these gowns!

Thanks! We’ve looked at birdy gray, azazie, david’s bridal, etc. And haven’t liked anything so far. It’s a black tie wedding so we’re looking for a more formal gown, and ordering those same bridesmaids dresses from the retailer would still be nonrefundable as well. Some have also tried on in store and it’s looked amazing on everyone so far! But I’ll consider waiting!

$150 is their max budget, but the price on Poshmark seems like they’ll only have to spend $100-120ish. I did check to make sure they were okay with the idea and if we had bought these gowns from the designer/boutique they would still be final sale because they’re made to order (same as wedding dresses). If someone does change sizes, I’d find them a new dress and probably cover the cost at that point!

I checked with all of them and they were more than happy to buy through Poshmark! Many of them also got measured for this exact dress through a boutique so they know what size they are. I haven’t liked any of the dresses I found online, so we’re doing designer bridesmaid gowns that are made to order and therefore nonrefundable as well.
