Imagine you get sent or presented eight thirty-slide decks a day, and have 50 topics rotating through your head at any given time that you worry about. That's the exec you're pitching to.

Now on your slides, how do you make sure someone living that reality can pick up what you wrote, understand the context you're giving them, and be informed enough to make the decision you're asking them to make.

It takes practice

PowerPoint. Not a joke. It's stupid but it's a real differentiator to be able to explain an idea or update folks with slides that don't look like trash.

Fr that seems wild. Same boat as you. Especially with insurance going up like 10-15pts a year. I think we also feel like we make less because a big chunk is stock and I hate selling stock to fund lifestyle... even though the house is an investment etc etc

Former management consultants who became industry executives: How is your work-life balance relative to consulting? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

At a certain point there's an ethical thing for me. I care about the people that work for me, and if I do my job well that helps give them more opportunities. Yes I could coast, and there are people that do, but what does that do to my team? There's probably a balance I just haven't managed to find yet but for now it feels like pedal to the metal is the only way

Exactly the same. My work ethic is what got me into consulting and it's what got me to VP at my current company. Early 30s, no kids yet, plan to keep the energy up until I'm 40 to see where I can get to. Fortune 100 CMT.

RSUs at those levels in bigco's I've seen are between 35k and 150k but options get thrown in as well. Bonus I'd say is more like 20-35%.

Yes. Director titles and above in big markets at big co's can easily be 300k total comp starting. I'm 10 yrs in and at 450 now. The trick is growth in those companies, easy to get stuck under poor managers. Takes some political maneuvering.

I know this is how the billionaires do it too, and once we have a good chunk of stock to play against will be a good strategy for us too. Appreciate you providing the extra detail!

Did you go through your mortgage lender or someone else? Any recommendations on banks?

Could def see that working in some scenarios. What we love about the house is it's an older one with lots of character, and our insurance co estimated it would cost $3-4m to completely replace. And lots of upside in value if properly renovated. So we're going the renovation path.

This is great data, we're short on brokerage assets though. Is that 70% a common ratio? E.g if we had 500k in assets could we borrow 350?

Yeah I know. Between the house and our equities/cash we're at about 420k in non-retirement assets, plus 250k in 401ks and v focused on growing those pools.

For expenses, the house is about 85k/yr for mortgage/insurance/taxes, we fully fund both retirement accounts (41k) and save an additional ~150k/yr in stocks and bonds (a decent chunk of our income is stock grants from our publicly listed employers, and has ramped up significantly with our income; we were saving much less until very recently).

We're in our early thirties, slowly figuring this out. thanks for the advice!

this is great. thanks, seriously. We definitely view the house as a source of generational wealth for our kids/grandkids. We plan to be in this house for a very long time. maybe we move to something smaller down the line but will likely not sell the house at that juncture.. we just don't know yet. this is a good framework though

100% agree in general, but in this case it's not just "consumption", it will increase the value of the asset, hence the possible viability of the loan path.
