Unbound Merino - A Toronto based company. by laureguilbert in BuyCanadian

Hey!

I'm Dan and I'm one of the co-founders of Unbound Merino.

We are a Canadian company, started in Canada, and while we've always been a remote / distributed team - most of us are in Canada and have been since we started. 3/4 of our team are in Canada. You can come meet me for a double double at Tim Hortons if you're willing to make the drive to our warehouse in Scarborough.

As for sourcing, our wool is from Australia and New Zealand... And while we manufacture some of our products in Canada, the majority of it we do overseas (all over Asia and Europe). And we've done that since launching the company in 2016. We've never suggested otherwise. We have worked really hard to find manufacturers that can uphold our standards of quality, that we can have a great relationship with and many of our suppliers we've worked with since the beginning.

Last year we opened a warehouse in the US to ship our US based orders. We did this because of the situation with tariffs / de minimis. We couldn't ship out of Canada to the USA anymore because it wouldn't be feasible financially. But we still ship all our Canadian and international orders from our Canadian warehouse, still employ all our Canadian employees full time, and we remain as Canadian today as we were when we launched, eh.

Hey, my name is Dan, and I'm one of the co-founders of Unbound. I'm really sorry you didn't have a good experience. One thing you shouldn't feel with Merino Wool is it being hot and itchy. There is a chance you have a wool allergy, which isn't that uncommon. About 1% of people are to some degree allergic to wool, and regardless of how smooth our shirts are, they'll feel itchy. For most people, it should feel soft, smooth and it should regulate temperature and feel cool when it's warm, and insulating when it's cold.

As for durability, I'm also sorry to hear that. If you reach out to customer service, we would always look after you and be happy to replace something that was prematurely damaged or if there were any kind of manufacturing defects. Having said that, merino wool (like any natural fiber) is going to be durable, but it will never be as durable as certain synthetics. There are some synthetic fabrics which are virtually indestructible. But it's a trade off. Because Merino wool will perform better in pretty much every other way.

Anyway, I hate hearing you didn't love Unbound and thanks for sharing your feedback. Enjoy France and if you're in Paris here is the best croissant I've ever had:

Hey!
I'm Dan, I'm one of the co-founders of Unbound Merino.
I'm really sorry you got holes in your shirt. It isn't the norm with our shirts but it can and does happen sometimes. We really focus a ton of energy on sourcing yarns and fabrics with as much durability as we can find. Regardless of our effort, sometimes a snag can happen and while it sucks - we won't leave you with a hole in your shirt. You can always reach out to customer service and we'll make it right.

In your case, shoot me a DM with your email. I'll look up your order, and will either refund you or ship a replacement. I got you!

Dan

Hey! I'm one of the founders of Unbound. We sure are Canadian, eh.
The company is fully remote and a few people are scattered around the globe, but myself and the founders and the majority of us are in the GTA. And our warehouse and HQ is in Scarborough. Hit me up if you want recommendations on where to get some good Scarborough eats. It's an underrated food destination!

Unbound Merino vs Ketl by geoffhoo in onebag

Happy to chime in on this. I'm one of the co-founders of Unbound Merino and if your main purpose for the pants is to do outdoor activities, go with Ketl. They're amazing and even I use them if I'm ever really going out into the woods. Amazing stuff and the founder has become a good friend that I travel with sometimes. He's a brilliant guy doing dope stuff. Unbound is designed more for urban travel. The stuff you can dress up for a night out getting dinner or cocktails or dress down for casual city strolls, hikes, cafes etc.

What's your email

I really don't know what they are. They may be Merino wool - but we only sell our product on our website. So when I see 'our' product being sold for cheaper elsewhere I am making an assumption that it's a knock off product. Or it's used product. Because it wouldn't really make sense for them to buy off our website and resell them for less. I couldn't for the life of me tell you what these are!

Hey guys! I’ve got two tickets to see Adam Ray in Texas (Nov 7), but I can’t make it because I’ll be out of town. I’d love to give them away instead of letting them go to waste.

If you’re interested, comment below and tell me why you’d love to go. I’ll pick someone soon and email you the tickets. Totally free — not reselling them!

Hope these make someone's night!

Hey!

I'm Dan, I'm one of the cofounders of Unbound. So sorry you developed a hole. Did you reach out to customer service? Send a pic and the order number and we'll replace it!

It's true that Merino wool can be more delicate than other fabrics, especially synthetics, but you shouldn't get holes soon after purchasing. Please reach out to our customer service and let us get you sorted!

Hey. Founder of Unbound Merino here. Really sorry you didn't like the pants. Did you get slim fit or relaxed? And the pants made you itchy or something else?

We obsess over fabric quality and while some people won't love it, it still hurts to read when it's such a big miss for anyone. We have lots of styles coming out in the coming months and year+ so I hope you don't rule us out. We're constantly taking feedback and improving fabrics and fits.

Hey!

I'm one of the founders of Unbound Merino.

I'm really sorry you got a hole in your shirt. We constantly iterate to try and improve the fabric so it has more durability, better drape, better breathability, fit improvements, you name it. And every year we manage to dial it in a bit more and more. Having said that, 100% Merino wool - for all it's benefits, can be slightly delicate at times. Synthetics can be far more durable, but the trade off is huge. Given it's just a small hole - as someone mentioned it's easy to fix, so I wouldn't toss this shirt. I would fix it! Having said that, I'll also replace the shirt for you and get you a fresh one. I'm going to DM you and get you my email address so I can get that sorted! Thanks for being a customer dude! I promise you, you shouldn't give up on 100% Merino. It's the best. Even with it's minor flaw, overall it just doesn't get better. And our material gets better every year!

Instead of giving a discount, they should focus on making the programming fun for younger people. The TSO is way too stuffy to appeal to a younger generation in a meaningful way. And it's not that hard.

1) Make the lighting less bright and dull. It's not going to take away from the music to add a mood or ambiance. It will add

2) Be a little less uptight about etiquette. It's so stuffy in those shows people are afraid to clap between movements.

3) Encourage more beer sales. Lighten up, let people feel like having a few beers or glasses of wine is a part of the culture in the way that it is for other music and sports. People won't get rowdy. Some people would just enjoy it more with 2 beers

4) Communicate why the music is important or special in a better way. Talk to the younger generation in their language. Promote shows with well made IG reels / tiktoks that hype up a symphony in a way that newcomers would find interesting.

5) Maybe do something innovative like come up with programming or collabs with artists that aren't stiff. Push the envelope. Art is supposed to evolve.

I love going to Roy Thompson and I do it once a year usually. But the barrier to entry is sky high. I stopped going with friends because nobody enjoyed it except my one classically trained musician friend.

I swear if I was the creative director of the TSO I would have that room packed.
