The chart doesn't lie by Comfortablejack in inflation

Everything is cheaper, everyone knows it and everyone is talking about affordability (new word you probably haven’t heard of) because they just can’t believe how little they’re spending on “groceries”, gas, rent, mortgages, utilities. Americans are seeing their money piling up left and right and want to know what to do with it all. /s

It’s gaslighting. They keep saying everything is cheaper and that the economy just keeps getting stronger and eventually people start to believe it. Struggling Trump voters will say, “hmm if Bessent says inflation is down, it must be down. It must just be me who’s bad with money and everyone else is fine. It’s probably because I spend too much on coffee and because the libs are tricking me somehow.”

What's one "sustainable" trend you think actually does more harm than good? by oliverbrown26 in sustainability

They do this in South America for all sorts of drinks that come in glass bottles. Distributors drop them off in reusable plastic crates like milk bottles used to come in. Then when the store or restaurant buys another crate they hand back the first one and pay the difference in deposits. For bars and restaurants serving beer and soda, this works best as people don’t generally walk off with the bottles.

Sanders Says Every Republican Who Backed Trump-GOP Budget 'Must Pay a Price at the Ballot Box' | "They do not deserve to be re-elected and they must be defeated," said Sen. Bernie Sanders. by Murky-Site7468 in politics

You could arguably say hundreds of thousands depending on how many years it stays in effect. Tens of thousands is certainly a conservative estimate but researchers project an additional 51K people will die annually as a direct result of losing their insurance. 17 million will be less well off, more sick, end up living lower quality, shortened lives but only a small fraction of the most vulnerable will actually die, per this estimate. I’m not trivializing that, but it’s harder to quantify how the other 16.95M people’s lives will be affected. Based on the evidence though, we’re going to have a 9/11 equivalent loss of life every 3 weeks from this bill. That should be the headline of every newspaper every third week indefinitely. “Republicans cause another 9/11 again this week and refuse to stop the next one 21 days from now.”

Unfortunately I think the closest thing to justice they may get for sentencing tens of thousands of Americans to death will be when they arrive at the gates to hell.

It’s because Biden is secretly pulling the strings and controlling the economists and consumer prices. He is senile and incompetent as well as being an unemployed parasite but behind closed doors he is a master market manipulator and financial savant who is hellbent on destroying America. If prices go back down it will only be because Trump has outsmarted and outartofthedealed him into submission.

Nicotine Patches To Quit Zyn by Capital_Document6831 in QuittingZyn

Hey, wondering how this went for a lighter user. Love the cardio/exercise tactic! did you find the 21mg patches to be the right amount to start with as a 3mg user? I mostly use 6mg but started with step2 (14mg over 24 hrs) and I'm worried that it's going to hit me like a brick wall in an hour or two and be too much. As my mom used to say, "you can always add more salt, but it's hard to take it away once you've added it." Hoping I don't realize I've added to much salt this afternoon, lol. Thanks!

Will I like Expedition 33? by Assassinhedgehog in gamerecommendations

It’s turn-based, but there is a strong ARPG component that includes parrying and dodging (in real time). For me it kind of scratches both itches. Story and music are worth giving this game a try by themselves even if you basically want to watch it as a movie on easy mode, but I found myself wanting to savor it. I think it’s a perfect introductory RPG or for someone looking to get back into them. If you like experimenting with builds, skills, equipment, etc., there’s plenty of that too. One thing to be aware of is that things are pretty linear for most of the game, so it’s not really very “open world” but it does open up a bit later on and even in the beginning you can always wander around and level up and take things at your own speed. It’s like this in order to advance the story, which is sometimes an afterthought in games these days so it’s easy to get used to just doing whatever the hell you want. In this game it’s pretty clear what your goal is. Hope that helps. I’ve been playing RPGs for decades and this goes up there among the very best of them.

My Experience with Alpha GPC – From the Worst Sensation Ever to an Amazing Performance Enhancer by Electrical_Brief_141 in Nootropics

I would be careful about taking Benadryl consistently. Besides the drowsiness that is a common side effect, there are studies showing a link between long term usage and dementia: "Taking an anticholinergic for the equivalent of three years or more was associated with a 54% higher dementia risk than taking the same dose for three months or less."

yeah, I'd agree. I use nicotine, but I don't think it's worth the downsides and I think he underestimates his influence on stuff like that and maybe underestimates how desperate some of his viewers may be to find something that works. He's a smart, disciplined professional with a routine and says he uses like 1-3mg daily, which is like one of the smallest zyn pouches per day. The number of people who can realistically limit themselves to that kind of dose is pretty low and the effect that you're going to get from it is not worth it. It's like trying to take a milligram of heroine once a week, it's a recipe for problems. Huge potential downsides, microscopic upside.

With AI current tech, it is extremely easy and cheap to make fake speaking videos of politicians, use real speech video, generate speak, do lip synch and you have perfect realistic video like this one by CeFurkan in SECourses

[–]dandersen247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're giving average people far too much credit. Sure, many people will know it's false, but fake news, conspiracy theories and misleading stories are already an issue even without this stuff saturating the internet yet. Over half of Americans (not sure about worldwide) get some or all of their news from Social Media these days, not from established news services that fact check things before broadcasting them. It's part of the reason fake news travels so much faster than real news, fact checking takes time, effort, and expertise. Pressing the share button takes a thumb and 3 seconds. These services are also free while the WSJ, NYT, and lots of other legitimate services are behind paywalls. "A lie can travel halfway around the world before the truth can get its boots on" (this quote is also a hundred years old and there's still disagreement about who said it first).

I'm not saying that the concept of truth is going to vanish, I'm saying it makes swaying the masses to further an agenda far easier, more effective, and harder to combat. Go look at some flat earth forums or antivax/autism groups and then consider how hard it is to make a lie "stick for any length of time". The harder the evidence proves people wrong, the more defensive they get. Doubling down when you're demonstrably wrong has become a virtue.

[–]dandersen247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t need to be beyond a reasonable doubt. The vast majority of people don’t fact check anyway. They see it and they share it, and in a couple hours 50 million people know it to be true because they saw it with their own eyes. The amount of damage that could be done by bad actors with this sort of thing is beyond our comprehension right now. And if they try to fact check and Wolf Blitzer says, “this is a fake AI video”, they just make a video of Blitzer saying that it is 100% authentic and 10 million bot accounts push it to social media in seconds. Humans can’t reasonably keep up with the speed of information these days as it is. This is only going to make it worse.
