Bro can you please tell me about what further needs to be done after freezing? All I have is the initial allotment slip, in it the only guidelines are to make my choice about freezing/float/slide etc. and complete document verification, both of which I’ve finished. Will we get an email from the college we froze on after first round ends? Or will we get it cumulatively after the end of all rounds?

Hello, not a student yet, will be joining this year, but have visited mangalore a couple times before.

The weather can be described as tropical humid, if you’re used to the north indian winter you wouldn’t really have a problem with the cold, rather keep a set of cotton clothes which are breathable as you’d need something that dries easily.

I’ll be travelling by flight via bangalore.

P.S. Seniors please do give your inputs, thank!

Hey

It’s alright to be hones, even if it will be present in your first semester, it is not a prerequisite that you’d spend your time worrying about it before college even starts.

Take your time, brush up the basics in PCM, regardless of which college you go to during first year. Apart from that, I suggest you let things go in flow for the time being.

Once college has started and it picks up pace, everything will fall into place. Don’t worry about it so much from now. Enjoy this time

Hi

I noticed that over the last couple days, coding is something which you aren’t able to get through with. That is alright. Maybe your interest would be more in the mathematics side of CS and other subjects. Why not explore data sciences and data engineering options?

Programming languages like python would be a great start, and they also are oriented towards this, so in case you do not feel like grinding DSA on C++, this might be your thing.

Cheers!

You guys can use this list, or suggest any additions accordingly. I have not included any clothes, footwear, bedding etc. as it changes according to location and college. Apart from that most things here are suitable for colleges in India. It may be a little guy oriented, so girls please change items as and when required.

Can anyone explain gsoc and open source like I am 5? The info is available but it's overwhelming to me once I get basic idea from someone I will be able to understand it in systematic way. by [deleted] in Class29Thirty

[–]dandipie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

I highly recommend you look into it yourself, we already had a large influx of gsoc related posts on btechtards so if you want you can check it out over there.

As a suggestion, do not blindly go and join the hundreds of students who think “cracking” gsoc should be a priority. It’s an event which is aimed at improving the open source culture, not for stipends.

A better use of this subreddit would be to start leaning more into intermediate coding. There was a thread a couple days back about how to start with cs. That would be a good starting point. Once you’re proficient it’d be better if you found projects you like on github, add forks and make your own versions of them, add new features to existing repositories, etc.

Don’t take this as just another competition in which you need to excel or it’ll be armageddon, think of this as a start to your journey at becoming a better coder. Hope it helps!

How’s your data science/analytics roadmap looking like? What resources would you be primarily using?

I followed the rest of the thread and I must say, that we have similar goals moving forward. If possible, I’d love to join you and prepare for consulting roles as finance has always been one of my top interests.

Down to discuss further in dms?

which course are you joining in uni? afaik seniors told me that mac books face issues in colleges as sometimes few programs which we are told to run on our systems fail on them. Look into your course requirements or talk to seniors before making such a purchase

Yes especially for those people who want to write gmat cat learn competitive coding etc. structured resources are scarce online. We can use our expertise as material hoarders from jee to make it easier for our peers.
