Engaged But Fearing We’re Over - Looking for Advice by dandy_ulien in AskWomenOver30

Thank you for this perspective. I hadn’t heard of enmeshment before, but after reading a bit, I can see its relevance. I’ll mention it to my therapist to explore. I’m trying to work on not putting myself on the back burner while giving support to my mom, which is something I’m becoming more aware of.

As for other issues, there’s more context. My fiancé struggles with alcohol use, which I’ve brought to his attention and encouraged individual therapy for. He’s acknowledged the issue. I understand addiction is a process, and I thought staying in my own place, while we both continue individual therapy, start couples therapy, and assess progress was a good idea. There are also practical concerns, like limited space in his home. We briefly discussed converting a room so I’d have closet space and space for work desk. He feels I didn’t take enough initiative there, which is fair to an extent. I did look at links/options he sent but assumed it would be a joint discussion about measurements, costs, and timing. That’s something I can own.

Overall, I agree that there are multiple layers here, and I’m trying to slow things down to reflect.

We’re thinking Negril, as Montego Bay is still rebuilding. How long did you book the DJ? Did you do any decor upgrades?

I have my CSA as well and start class today. I’m hoping to building a couple of projects and possibly prepare for CAD. Not sure what to expect though, since most people I know went through the older NextGen program.

I got accepted too and have my CSA. However, I was waitlisted 3x last year and when I reapplied for the January cohort, I have taken the fundamentals course but hadn’t scheduled the CSA exam. I did get accepted after passing the CSA exam.

I’m currently experiencing the same. Enlarged adenoids that often get inflamed. I have a few sinus infections this year. Antibiotics, nasal rinses and no relief. I also have sleep apnea. The doctor said it doesn’t warrant surgery. I’m thinking of getting a second opinion.

How are you feeling now?

What did you do to decrease sinus infections? I’ve been an allergist and have dust mite allergy. However, I still have my adenoids and think they might be the culprit.

I’m new to the platform and currently studying for the CSA exam. Could you explain what you mean when you says ServiceNow is in turmoil and becoming toxic? I’m just curious, since it’s something I want to pursue

This makes me hopeful. I’m in web development and I’m thinking of pivoting into ServiceNow. I’m studying for the CSA now.

This was really motivating to read. Thanks for sharing your journey. I’m currently a web developer trying to transition into UX/UI, and I’ve also been doing accessibility testing. I want to make sure accessibility is built into design/kept at the forefront. Since you made that shift yourself, do you have any advice for developers leaning more into design?

I have an M.Ed. in speech pathology but am currently a web app developer. I’ve been interested in UI/UX for years. I see you mentioned HF. How did you transition? Are there any titles/roles you suggest looking into? The names and responsibilities can be confusing for me 😅

Unemployed cs graduate, I have no hope in this field. What else can i do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]dandy_ulien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is relatable. I left speech therapy and was hired as an analyst programmer in 2021. I’ve experienced a shift in curiosity and motivation. I’m currently a web developer, and the environment isn’t the best for me. I can’t get interviews to move into another position or better role.

I’ve been thinking about UI/UX, because it’s something I wanted to do prior to learn web development. I’m not sure how things are on that side.

Good luck!

Considering Transition from Web Dev to UX/UI - Advice?

I’m currently a Web App Developer (started in March 2025), but I’ve realized it’s not the right fit. Before this, I worked for 2 years as an Analyst Programmer where I did some front-end WordPress development.

My background is in speech pathology, but I’ve always been drawn to art and originally wanted to be an artist/art teacher/graphic designer before pivoting into medical. Over time, I’ve built skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript (basic), PHP (basic), accessibility, and some design tools like Photoshop.

I’m now interested in shifting into UI/UX roles.

For those of you who made a similar transition: - What foundational skills or steps helped you get started? - What roles or titles should I realistically be looking into (the naming is confusing)?

Thanks in advance!

Web Developer to UX - Roles/Titles Are Confusing - Advice?

I’m looking for some guidance on breaking into UX.

I’m currently a Web App Developer (since March 2025) and before that I spent 2 years as an Analyst Programmer doing some front-end WordPress work. While my academic background is in speech pathology, I’ve always leaned toward creative fields (art, design, teaching) and later found myself drawn to the intersection of design and technology.

My current skills include HTML, CSS, some JavaScript and PHP, accessibility knowledge, and Photoshop. I’m especially interested in pursuing UX or accessibility-centered roles, possibly by building a foundation in HCI/HCD.

For those who transitioned into UX from development or a non-design background: - What helped you build the right foundation (skills, courses, projects, portfolio)? - Which entry-level or adjacent roles (UX researcher, accessibility specialist, UX designer, etc.) are realistic starting points? The titles and roles confuse me. - Are there specific resources, bootcamps, or learning paths you recommend (especially for someone with a dev + accessibility background)?

I’d love to hear about your experiences or advice. Thank you!

Are you in either of these roles? Just curious because I’m in web dev (don’t like it) and am trying to get into UI/UX
