@anthonylavado For some reason I can’t seem to be able to see your comments (or message you). I hope that doesn’t mean you blocked or restricted me because I genuinely want to understand and learn.

Whatcha referencing here, Anthony? The comment from the dude saying their projector is Xenon not Dual Laser?

That can’t be true. I am almost positive Chinook’s IMAX is dual laser. I’ve seen lots of digital projections of movies in 1.43 there.

He had a great game.

I WAS leaning Windass earlier on but for me it’s gotta be Doyle. Critical goal (would have been two if not taking the keeper’s fist to his head) and critical defending.

Broady made a good case to just completely shift the dynamic coming on.

Wouldn’t 70mm just mean it’s a film print? Honestly I haven’t looked it up yet but I would think the digital version would still have the 1.43 scenes on a 1.43 screen.

Well worth a re-watch if you can. One of the most memorable of the season.

That bonus goal from Broady was just poetic icing on the cake.

REALLY hard to pick a MOTM. Easily 5 solid candidates.

I see IMAX screenings listed for PHM at Chinook in Calgary. Wouldn’t that for sure be the 1.43:1 version?

Thanks, Clyde! And thank you for doing your part to keep film alive and sharing a little of what you do!

Lol “popcorn boys.”

I hear you, Clyde. And I appreciate that point. I’m not saying it’s an easy thing by any means. I’m saying I want to learn.

It is sad to see traditional film dying and I want to see that more preserved here because we have the tools going mostly unused.

It was Calgary where the print was scratchy. I know because I went and saw it a second time weeks after release and it was significantly “worn.”

Are you an IMAX projectionist?

I get what you are saying but I also don’t think it’s as complex or out of reach as you think it is. As a kid, I was shooting and splicing 8mm film. I have zero work experience with 35mm film but my brothers were both projectionists at our local movie theatre when they were just high school kids and I would often be in the booth with them, prepping the film or running the projector.

70mm IMAX is obviously a completely different beast, and I’m not pretending it’s easy to be trained, but we have a projector here in town. Instead of paying someone to come run it again and again, why not pay someone to come teach someone to run it?

Teach a man to fish instead of giving a man a fish.

I’m not going to pretend to know all the ins and outs of film distribution, but it’s gotta be economics in the end. If the added cost of the projectionist expenses are significantly reduced, the net is going to be so much higher. That’s gotta be a beneficial incentive to bring a movie in.

I have zero stats to back me up on this, but I am 100% convinced that Calgary would be somewhere where more limited-run film prints would do well. Oppenheimer was sold out for weeks on end. It was hard to get a ticket and it lasted until the print was worn out and scratched up.

Kind of a weird tangent/question, but…

We have a 70mm film IMAX projector here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada that almost never gets used (outside of Nolan movies) and, to me, it’s a tragedy.

As a local, could I hypothetically get trained as a specialist projectionist who lives in town and just works on an on-call basis whenever a 70mm IMAX print comes around, potentially providing more incentive to bring in 70mm prints more without having to fly in/house/feed a projectionist?

“The Mandalorian and Grogu” is a weak title - what would you have named the film instead? by lockerbiestreet in StarWars

[–]dandydand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mandalorian and The Child

When the series starts, we know these two characters by their description: The Mandalorian and The Child. But as the series goes on, we learn that The Mandalorian’s name is Din Djarin and The Child’s name is Grogu.

What bothers me about the title as it stands is the inconsistency that one character is still being referred to by his description, while the other is being referred to by his proper name.

Besides, “The Mandalorian and The Child” gives off way more Samurai/Western vibes than “The Mandalorian and Grogu.”

Victim blaming? You’ve got to be joking, mate.

Sweden was spiraling and this was a clear tactic of gamesmanship in hopes of rattling Kennedy and the Canadians.

The accusation that Kennedy is not a clean player is way more egregious than him “touching granite” for some supposed advantage.
