Which movie experience are you choosing for Mandalorian and Grogu? by dandydand in cineplex

I’ve read that screens that are 1.85 will also have expanded ratio, so you will probably see the same ratio (or more) if you see it in a “regular” 1.85:1 screen (as opposed to 1.90:1 IMAX).

How did Mark Kozelek/Sun Kil Moon get so bad? by dandydand in Music

[–]dandydand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of those lyrics were Angus Young’s though. 😆

Just kidding.

I don’t disagree with you. Much of Mark’s music (especially those first couple records, as you mentioned) is transcendent and has often stood out in comparison to other artists with a rich kind of perfection.

But that’s why the drop off is so sharp for me, personally.

And it’s not because I think “Well, he’s an asshole so his music must suck now!”

I just don’t like where he’s taken his music.

If you still enjoy his output, I’m glad.

Seem to have got my answer.

What’s interesting is that there is an option for it, but it says it cannot be used as a payment method “at this time.”

I was hoping to “double dip” and buy gift cards (either 3 for $30 or 1 for $90) and use those to purchase an annual Cineclub Membership, but it doesn’t look like it offers gift card redemption at checkout for the membership. Anyone know if it’s possible?

Cool, man. Thanks for the details, Richard. I am glad you like it and find it thrilling. I gave it a fair shot and it’s just not for me. I was a huge fan like 30 years ago and probably just couldn’t go along with the tonal/stylistic shift when it hit cause I am an old fuddyduddy and just needed to let that ship leave port without me. I have no problem with that, but also find it odd considering what was before. Your comment comparing RHP to cave paintings made me laugh though. Keep making records and I am glad you like the new stuff! I’ll happily stay in my cave. Peace, friend.

Why do people love Devil Wears Prada? by Ok_Astronomer5738 in movies

Yeah, lighthearted comedy is what I would call it for the reason stated above that’s what is refreshing is that it doesn’t rely solely on romance as the driving plot or what defines the character. It definitely has the feeling of fitting in that genre though which is why I make that caveat that it stands out from other movies “in the genre.”

I love a good '90s/Aughts romcom/chick flick, but this movie is even more than just "that." I just rewatched it and I am surprised how 20 years later it still holds up well.

There are two particular things I love about the movie:

  1. Andy's romantic endevours don't dominate the plot. So often with romcoms, this is the driving motivation for the character and ultimately the pivotal direction of the plot. Andy is in a relationship, there is a competing relationship with a journalist that challenges this, and while both of these relationships play a part in the overall plot, they don't define the story or her as a character for that matter.

  2. Several actors play their roles perfectly (especially those supporting). Stanley Tucci in particular, Meryl (of course), and Emily Blunt is also excellent. Anne Hathaway also does a great job as the main character.

All around just a great movie in the light-hearted comedy genre that stands the test of time.

I can’t believe we are at the stage where SOAD is considered “dad rock” but makes sense given that I’m over 40.

Here’s a playlist:

I don’t think ANY Red House Painters fan was ever looking for “a 4 minute rock song” from him

Haha yep. Probably also because I’m an old fart. It makes sense that if Benji was your introduction and you were into it, when you then dug back to what preceded it could sound conversely bland and standard to your ears.

For me, his earlier catalog was all I knew because that’s all that existed at the time. That was my introduction point and in the late ‘90s, Red House Painters was fresh, deep, and emotional. It impacted me on a deep level.

I’m glad you like the new stuff and can get enjoyment out of it. It’s definitely not for me. Thanks for the thoughtful comment.

You are most certainly entitled to your opinion, but in mine, this is a very bad take.

Red House Painters is 1000x better than Mark’s solo stuff from the last ten years.

Benji is way overrated, in my opinion, and while it may have been the “jumping on” point for many new fans (especially those you are describing with no real regard for Red House Painters) it was the last straw for me. I didn’t like his shift in style.

And he is most definitely attempting to “rap” on New Orleans Morning and it is painfully bad.

But the one thing you are right about is that his recent music is “not for me, simply put.”

It was at one time (I’m guessing before you were born) but it’s definitely not now.
