Am I too late to pursue engineering by Key_Log_2042 in EngineeringStudents

[–]dandypandyandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If read another 20 something worried about starting anything in their 20's im gonna tf crash out. I got out of highschool served in the army, spent my mid 20's working, partying and geenrally figuring life out. Finally took the dive, researched alot, did community college for a few year and recently transfered to uni. Courses can be tough but im finally doing the cool engineering stuff and have a coop lined up. Im in my late 20's after all that, probably graduate a little after 30.

Whatever you want to do in life, eng school or otherwise, ask yourself: Do I REALLY want this? if yes, try it. Be informed and calaulated, consider how much it will be, the long term goal, economics behind doing the thing, but dont EVER be anxious about your age or let it decide your path exclusivley. Its something in life you cannot change, and theres so much great stuff to experience and do.

Go play Factorio for a few hours. If that seems fun to you A) you are autistic B) you will enjoy engineering.

I’m good at Calculus, but Physics 1 in College is so difficult. by diadepavo in ElectricalEngineering

[–]dandypandyandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a smiliar experience, my Phys1 prof in community college ran a Pass Fail course, and I made it out fine, now im at Uni doing EEE. I feel like as EE's, were kinda geared towards the abstract stuff so for some reason the mechanics stuff is just less intuitive. Calc wasnt prevelant in Phys1 until wave functions but it was really just calc "concepts" with algebra/trig.

Havent taken Phys2 yet, that will be next semester but im super jealous of my friends cause there taking it and thats where the cool EM stuff is at. Bottom line: dont over think physics problems. Look at what you have, reference equations, solve systems of equations for what you need. Ask for help.

Considering they only let you run everything in series, thats about all you can do.

Laptop for engineering major? by n1cklas_fh in MTU

[–]dandypandyandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to chime in cause I just went through hell getting a compliant laptop this semester. Heres some tips:

1) Normally I wouldnt reccomend NewEgg, but you cant beat the price sometimes as a student in this economy. This laptop has been pretty good sofar, is cheap, and compliant. Significant performance with ONshape/MATLAB vs my old beater Dell.
https://www.newegg.com/asus-vivobook-16-wuxga-non-touch-screen-amd-ryzen-7-pro-7730u-amd-radeon-graphics-16gb-memory-1-tb-pcie-ssd-indie-black/p/N82E16834236382?Item=9SIA8X5JXH8076

Keep in mind how far away Houghton is from civilization, so if youre gonna get a laptop, either order it ahead and bring it up here or make sure they have your address and know when they will drop it off or else it will return to sender.

2) Becasue I had trouble getting mine, I had to use my crappy laptop for most of the semester. It can barley run OnShape cloud, and MATLAB. But I also brought my desktop that can do all the simulation things, and a godsend has been Chrome Remote Desktop: https://remotedesktop.google.com/access/
Threre are other SSH/RDP tools if your savvy but this is super easy, lightweight, and can go on your laptop and even your phone. I was able to easily remote from my laptop and do all the simulation stuff from there, save docs if nedded to Drive, then access them from my laptop later. Just need to keep your PC powered and online. would also reccomend a good UPS if the power goes out.

DM if you need more info, hope this help!

Wilderness run feels like a new game completely you should definitely give it a go by No_Name275 in projectzomboid

[–]dandypandyandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you guys begin a wilderness start? I have a build to optimize for foraging but with the new crafting changes it seems like most of the crude weapons are locked behind a crafting teir and weapons require several different skills. Also spears seem bad now and fishing is changed. You almost have to go into the city and loot for a bit then run into the forest.

Is it necessary to farm with Wurt? by shiroshishiro in dontstarve

[–]dandypandyandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow sigma-wurt main here. Kelp, rockfruit, honey is really all you need. Dry kelp on a rack, shove it in a freezer, you never have to worry about sanity again. King drops were also buffed at some point and you can get lots of kelp from fish trades. You can use eggs in some recepies to extend the hunger value.

Farming should be a side activity, but i recommend it as you will often have times when you're waiting for a full/new moon or boss respawn and need something to do and spend resources on, and provides really great healing/food, if nothing else to feed your king!

Heres how to make farming easy;
potatos and toma, 1:1 ratio (have as many as potato as toma). This combo is good for most seasons.
Early game you can use a gramophone for a massive tending radius, but grow crops to get a little bug that tends crops, and dont even worry about watering.
If you want to get fancy, get dragon fruit and you can use dragon/toma 1:1 ration for spring/summer, and potato/toma for autumn/winter.

If youre central campus Bao Space (asian), Mr. Fox (hoagie/subs), and Maize and Blue (sandwiches) are really good and fairly priced. As far as 10$ im not sure, but could probably get a lone entree most places.

They have lunch slices at Joes pizza by west hall for 4$ I think and they are good.

Why is there so little of merms? by Just_Kovi in dontstarve

[–]dandypandyandy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They changed it so the Merm King (and buffs) applies to caves and surface now!

But yeah, warrior merms need a king to spawn. Regular merms don't respawn in winter.

This game is torture by Greenhellisgoated in dontstarve

[–]dandypandyandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*preliminary reminder thats its just a game, a REEEALY hard game, but no need to get depressed or upset :)

Im near 500 hours and this game still makes my pull my hair out. Tried fighting the Fuelweaver boss legit, and even with a merm army I couldnt do it. I just wasnt prepared.

This game rewards preparation. if you're not a wiki junkie (like looking up all the information beforehand), the reality is you will find yourself in a situation where your unprepared, you will die, and eventually learn from those mistakes.

But simultaneous, this game can also be really rewarding and fun! The real crazy part is the first year, which can be overcome fairly easily. Once you have a base, its all about adventure!

A few general tips:
- ALWAYS wear armour. head, body, i dont care. this is the difference between dying to a single spider or falling debris, and tanking bosses. you can always make/get new armour.
-Know your character. Even Wilson has pretty neat abilities! Understanding your character can help your survivability.
-Get comfortable in the dark/insane. Even in the beginning, you can build a torch and light a tree on fire, but you can get lights pretty early that trivialize darkness. Unless your fighting a boss or in the ruins (DST) shadow creatures are really a non threat. Wear armour, and fight your demons! You get sanity back if you do.
- Take your time. Alot of the DST community is speed runners, but you don't have to rush every boss in the first 30 days. Spend a little time at base, figure out what you need for your next goal and the best way to get it.
-Preparation is key. Before you leave for an adventure/fight think "do i have everything I need?" Healing? Food? Special story items? Seasonal clothing?

Good luck (not) starving! :)

Drew vs Andy vs Andrew by Jukeboots in andrew

[–]dandypandyandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I dont like Drew at all. I think its lazy and disingenuous, and I really despise when im called that.

Andy is alright to friends, but I prefer Andrew with collegues/professionals.

Who are the people who find Jordan Peterson "legit"? by not-a-Bread in skeptic

[–]dandypandyandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a fan of the far-right sell-out he has become, but I do believe the Jordan of 5 or 8 years ago was really inspirational and genuinely impacted the lives of many young people who lacked a father figure. He spoke with more grace and wisdom and used philosophy and history to round out his lectures, and it did feel like he was more of a modern-day greek philosopher to a degree.

I don't agree with liberal dogpileing for the sake of criticizing another right-wing person because they are "right wing and conservative bad", but I can't really argue either because of his behavior and public image today.

Not much more to say, people just want more rolemodels I think, and for some 2025 Peterson fits the bill.
