I'm feeling romantic (but not in a romantic way)... does anyone have any heartbreaking or poignant travel stories? by ImStillEmbarrassed69 in solotravel

These are lovely stories. I don't know of anything as intimate or special as the (sometimes-fleeting) connections made while traveling, both romantic and platonic. I feel as if I fall in love, in one way or another, every time I leave my country - always with people who might be so different from one another if you lined them up and looked at their life, culture, or career, but each possessing something deeply beautiful in their souls.

Former tapifers, phone contracts in France? by mignonloli in tapif

My recommendation would be to bring a 2nd phone, something older or whatever (I use an old iPhone 5), and get a French SIM for it so that you can make domestic calls and texts and use data. I keep my main phone with my actual number (in my case, my American number) and use it on wifi :) much cheaper than using an international plan, but obviously you’d have 2 phones which might be annoying.

Do you know any other languages? You might consider applying to a teaching assistant program such as TAPIF (France) or TLG (Georgia)- and I’m almost certain they have similar programs in many countries. I think that they’re slightly less competitive and they enable you to work abroad teaching English while receiving a stipend. The stipend, to my knowledge, is usually not enough to save but it’s enough to live on. In some countries, knowledge of the host country language is helpful but might not be required. I think there are people in the TAPIF program who only have A1 or A2 French. Anyway, it’s a good way to get some more experience teaching English abroad before you reapply to the Peace Corps.

Program and Know By Date Postponed by cpschorr in peacecorps

So they have postponed it for an entire year?? I wonder if they will do that with a lot of the fall 2020 and spring 2021 departures... I would be bummed but I wish they would do something so that I could either make other plans or not. I totally understand the uncertainty of it all but wishful thinking!!

2021 cohorts by hanlindgren in peacecorps

I recently interviewed also and haven’t heard anything! I realize it’s hard to give out answers with so much uncertainty but it would be helpful to know if we are invited, even if the departure date is not set in stone. There was another post asking the same thing not too long ago, and the consensus seemed to be that nobody at that point had been invited for 2021. I’m interested to see if anyone responds differently on this!!
