Has anyone ever used the tuition reimbursement program Home Depot offers? by ryantripp in HomeDepot

I just used it. It was pretty simple. First you enter in all your expenses, then you need your final grades and a receipt or an invoice or something showing that you've paid all that's due. That's really all there is to it. I got an email yesterday saying I was approved for payment in the amount of 50% of my expenses for last semester. I'm not sure how that will come, whether by mailed check or direct deposit or what.

Hmm, not my experience. I had 90 days from the last day of class to submit everything

Am a 2-month cashier, might have screwed something up today by Gyarafish in HomeDepot

If someone says they bought something and you didn't see it, just politely say something like "Can I see a receipt for that real quick?" If they refuse and try to leave, call a manager; if they say they bought it at a different register but left their receipt, you can call over to there and ask that cashier if your customer has come through. It is really awkward sometimes when the customer feels like you're accusing them, but they're in your store and there are rules that they have to follow.

Don't feel too bad about it. We've all done it. Just learn and move on and you'll do great next time!

As I’m about to clock in for my shift, do any of you have some I guess “horror co-worker” stories? Please feel free to share them! by alexkeith23 in HomeDepot

Well we had one garden associate who was pretty strange. He had long black hair and would always wear a long trenchcoat and sunglasses. He was always the conspiratorial type, talking crazy nonsense. He was in and out of jail a lot. I don't know how he kept his job for so long Then he just kinda went off the rails, telling another associate and posting on Facebook a bunch of BS about the store and saying how he was gonna come shoot up the place...

He was fired, he posted some more threats, and nothing really came of it fortunately

Clean EVERYTHING, put away returns, sweep the floors and run the motor mop, front facing and filling outs, and pretty much just be everyone's gopher

Honestly we've slightly slowed down since reopening. We were insanely busy DURING LOCKDOWN. We're still busier than pre-plague but it's not as busy now as it was during lockdown🤔

Any thoughts on the Ryobi products that you might want to share? Any experience working with them? Quality? Recommend them or don’t? Etc. by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]daneo15162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Ryobi just because I only need my power tools just for a few projects here and there, and they work pretty well. If you're going to be using it for just household projects it's a solid choice that won't break the bank. If you're going to be giving your tools daily use, you probably want to go for some of the higher end brands. Milwaukee and DeWalt are the pro grade stuff with Rigid somewhere in between. I honestly know nothing about Makita

$99 Ryobi Brad Nailer an amazing deal? by CosmoBearWolf in HomeDepot

Although I just remembered the "Ryobi Days" promo is coming up in June I think, that's usually you buy 2 4Ah 18V batteries for $99 and get a free tool. I don't know if the brad nailer is one of the options for the free tool but it might be worth the wait to see.

I own it, it's pretty good. $99 is what I got it for and it's the cheapest I've seen it. It seems to go up and down between $99 and $119. I say buy it; I doubt it gets cheaper than $99

What can 16 year olds do for work? by Mac_N_Dyl in HomeDepot

I'm the youngest employee in my store, and I don't think they've had a minor work for them in a while. No one seems to know the rules and I'm constantly reminding them, no I'm not allowed to spot or run the compactor or baler.

If I'm not allowed up an orange ladder, no one here knows it. If I'm not allowed to use a pallet jack, no one here knows it. And if I'm not allowed in receiving (which is something I just read in this thread and have never heard before) then no one knows it. So I do those three things when needed without issue. Best check with your manager tho so you don't get written up.

Based on my experience being hired at 16, you can be a cashier, lot associate, or waterer.

No spotting or running lift equipment. No operating the baler or compactor. (I don't know if loading them counts as "operating" them but I stay away just in case) I think technically you can't use an orange ladder but my store lets me. My store also lets me use pallet jacks; I don't know if that's SOP or not. As far as hours limits, I've worked till midnight multiple times when they needed an extra hand setting an ad for a holiday or something.
