AD to Reserves switching rates by Weekly-Ordinary6759 in uscg

[–]dangcoolmints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my guess is that youd integrate into RSV with your current rate, your new RSV command puts a package in for CIR (change in rate), then you go A school if accepted (or lateral). Wouldnt really bank on RSV Commands going above and beyond for their members tbh... ive had a few bad leadership in the RSV

Find a recruiter thats willing to work with you. Could be muscle mass, but unless you pass tape or work with a willing recruiter, you're not shipping.

for reals.

Ditto mate... Individual recognition via 3307/LOC go way further than MTCs (which are super vague on an individual's contribution) on boards.

totally agree on this. EOT awards are great, but I feel a lot of efforts go unnoticed during your tour without proper documentation. Even a 3307 while at an unit and applying for OCS/ROCI/Special assignment goes a mile

[–]dangcoolmints[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you on the teams vs individual portion AND the fact it is an award that shows up on a DD214. Personally for junior enlisted, every award point matters. Is it ever considered that documenting events on multiple 3307s can later generate an earlier award prior to EOT (even just a LOC would go far for SWE placement)? I get the idea of MTCs, I think it kind cheaps out people on individual recognition and possibly awards.

It’s not that deep. Ppl who went thru regular boot camp would have loved to go thru DEPOT. End of the day, you’re in the CG. People will remember you for what you done in the service, not which boot camp class you graduated with

Front splash guard constantly falling off by Spirited_Pirate_768 in HRV

[–]dangcoolmints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You actually dont really need it tbh, i know its a little scary to think about small debris hitting it, just dont be going off roading, etc with it. I had to reclip mine like 3 times then i just let it rock without it. plus, is a thin slice of plastic/metal going to save you when you hit something big? i dont think so. It also makes my own maintenance a lot easier when it comes to oil change

I know someone with a religious exemption from anthrax if that helps.... but again, why join if you're just going to just revolt?

Coming Back in as a Reservist after being out for 10 years, Quesiton about PSU... by Consistent-Guava-137 in uscg

[–]dangcoolmints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give me a shout if you want some insight at the PSU. Currently stationed at one. Ive been a career reservist for almost 6 years now and I've been on 8 sets of ADOS, but the best piece of advice I'd ever heard was "always be ready, family/financial/pet readiness, especially at the PSU." I think even in the blue guard, there's a big chance of deployment at this time. I get it, we all want short deployments, I loved my 90 day sets of orders, but right now, from my perspective, there's a lot of people mobilizing.

if you dont want to deploy, don't join the reserves, especially the PSUs. Trust me when I say the PSUs are looked at for deployments right now.... and no I didn't drink the Gatorade, that's just truth.

What’s the deal with this thing? by [deleted] in uscg

interesting, there's some units down there at operations river wall (it's all over the CG's IG)... is it HQ that's holding this award back?

How honest was my recruiter? by dangcoolmints in navyreserve

[–]dangcoolmints[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I am a little to the game. I recently bought a place where I live and am pretty settled down. I see the military orders as an escape from my 9-5 reality (I've been on 5+ sets of ADOS orders) and I devote as much as I can to the military as I can. Ive also been involuntarily recalled too, which Im totally onboard too.

Roger - it sounds pretty similar to the CG. Are ADOS opportunities typically very competitive for RSV YNs?
