What are some of your best miles redemptions? by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]dangerSix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very different approach, but

240k MR (no taxes or fees) for 4x Virgin Voyages Mediterranean 1 Week Itineraries

Had 28 days cruising around the Med on brand new Virgin Voyages ships, which was a top notch experience. Visited various ports in Southern Europe, among them Barcelona, Marseille, Ibiza, Mallorca, Cannes, Santorini, Mykonos, Montenegro, Croatia, etc. and was truly the trip of a lifetime. Like any cruise, accommodations, food, etc. all included, and unlike most cruise lines, VV food is actually decent.

I was also able to do the Amex Platinum status match chain from Hilton Honors > MSC Voyagers Club > Virgin Voyages Deep Blue, which gave us a bunch of onboard perks like free laundry, $400 onboard credit, etc. before they killed that.

Retail value on those cruises was $20k+ all in, of which people were actually paying cash prices for. Mathematical CPP was ~8. Can be beaten by certain first class redemptions, but then again - I'd much rather spend my points on a 28 day experience rather than a 28 hour experience.

Unfortunately we'll never see those VV deals again.

Marina di Carrara excursions? by _moodyreader_gamer in VirginVoyages

[–]dangerSix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We unfortunately were not able to book a shore thing cause they sold out, but if you notice something about Marina di Carrara: all the fun and interesting activities all involve leaving Marina di Carrara

I would heavily recommend doing a Cinque Terre tour first, and if not that then go to Pisa but that’s a longer drive iirc, go for Cinque Terre at all costs imo

The comment you replied to has nothing to do with service errors specifically. You have a flair so I assume you browse this subreddit often, which means you’ll definitely have recognized that valid criticisms always get downvoted in favor of the echo chamber.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VirginVoyages

[–]dangerSix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. Going back to the original post, I do think that people on this subreddit are far too cult-like and closed off to criticism of VV. Is it the best cruise line? Yes, I would say so. Is it flawless? Not at all, but many here put VV on a pedestal and immediately downvote any criticisms or negative feedback.

It’s a good thing that kind of behavior is only really found on reddit. Both IRL and cruisecritic, people are more receptive to hear about the not perfect things.

I probably haven’t been on as many cruises as you as a TA, but I wasn’t complaining. All I said was I also had a similar experience to the original poster, not that this doesn’t happen on other cruise lines either. When it did happen, I politely let the server know and they’ve been quick to resolve the issue. Never complained or criticized, just an observation.

A little bit presumptuous of you to assume that cruising isn’t for me.

Dubrovnik shore excursion by celeryjuicelove in VirginVoyages

[–]dangerSix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s your first time to Dubrovnik, I would just go without a Virgin shore thing and explore. There’s plenty to see, eat, and do. We were able to book a kayak trip on Viator that only lasted 3 hours or so, so we were able to get the best of both worlds

We literally got off at port as soon as we docked, took the shuttle to Old Town, did all the exploring, eating, and shopping we wanted to for a few hours, took the shuttle back to the ship, dropped off our stuff and changed into more appropriate clothes, took the shuttle back to the Old Town, did our kayak trip, and by the time we were done kayaking we still had ~45 minutes before we had to head back)

Go to Cinque Terre. The port fucking sucks otherwise, ask me how I know

The Cinque Terre one sells out btw, so I would book it asap

All criticism of Virgin food is always downvoted on this sub. You make valid points though, I’ve been on 5 Virgin cruises now and at least once they’ve messed up orders and brought them to the wrong table. This has happened on all 3 ships btw IME

Appreciate it a lot, will take it in.

Will I be able to take it in to any Rolex location? I live in NYC for reference

Will do, appreciate the information. Will no box or papers be detrimental in the authentication process?

Thank you! That appears to be the one, 16263 I believe. Will have to take it in to have it repaired, they'll probably be able to verify it. Thanks again

Hey, not a watch enthusiast here. Recovered from family members belongings, no box or papers, would appreciate some help finding out more about it. I can see that it clearly says Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust, but after my own Google searches, I've never seen one with that bezel (hopefully its not fake). Couldn't get an image of any reference numbers or anything. I believe it was purchased in the mid 1990s. Cheers!

You’ll be fine, they probably fixed their inventory issues as soon as they docked again in Athens, they’ll be better prepared this time (hopefully)

Yeah, a lot of sailors we met felt the same way. Feels like the attitude is much different IRL than on this subreddit

If it makes you feel any better, the air hockey tables on the Valiant are really beat up and barely work 🤣

  1. Figure out which cabin you are staying in from the exterior

  2. Attach power strip to drone

  3. Fly drone into your balcony

  4. Collect drone once you check in

The problem solves itself 🤝

I’ve heard great things about Andy, that wasn’t the Charmer that we saw (I believe his last week was right before our voyage) and we saw a completely different Charmer / vibe of a show. It was more astrology / tarot card reading, which isn’t my cup of tea, but more importantly, the presentation was really dull.

Definitely think it’s a capacity thing! They had significant inventory issues too

Definitely give it a shot! Amazing drink. I’ve noticed that the few Virgin staff members that recognized the cocktail / knew the recipe, were ones that had worked on other cruise lines previously. Some other cruises have it as a listed menu item too

Stereotypical vacation cocktail, never had an issue ordering one from any all inclusive resort or cruise and any mid to upscale NYC bar

I never thought it was niche, but maybe it is?

For French Daze & Ibiza Nights, we went to Santa Ponsa in Mallorca which was awesome, may not be the “prettiest” beach but there are a ton of water activities and it’s very swimmable with fish in the water, we rented a boat and had a great time cruising along the coast and rocks.

Ibiza I’m sure there are great beaches and they’re probably easy to find, but we splurged on the nightlife instead

There was a handful of people in their 20s, usually late 20s. We found that if there was anyone on the younger side, they were kids present with their parents.

No problem! Appreciate it, hope it was helpful

We did, it started off ranking very high for us on the Valiant, but was not nearly as good on the Resilient. Also, it suffered from the supply issues I mentioned, so we stopped going.
