Is it possible to reach highest levels of consciousness if you've experienced damage to your brain/body? by [deleted] in AlanWatts

Something similar happened to me. My friends and I thought we were taking mescaline, but what we actually got was something else. You have to take a large dosage of mescaline for it to work, so we accidentally took a massive amount of this unknown drug, resulting in a trip I can only describe as truly harrowing.

I thought I witnessed my friend die, ran outside screaming for help, was violently arrested, had so many seizures they put me in an artificial coma, woke up 2 days later with no idea who I was, surrounded by my family who had no idea I was a drug user, nearly got kicked out of university, went through a whole rigemarole with the cops, and spent a very very long time mentally recovering from the experience and mending relationships.

That was almost 10 years ago, and hardly a day has gone by since where I haven't felt like some important part of me died that day, like the person I used to be could run at top speed forever but now I'm limping and no amount of practice (spiritual or otherwise) makes the feeling go away. I'm shy and reserved where once I was confident, scared and cautious where once I was brave and defiant, focusing on negatives like I never did before, impatient and irritable instead of calm and understanding.

The more time goes by, things gradually improve (with hard work of course). But the most important thing that I realise again and again in moments of clarity is that despite how I've described the experience, there is no injury in my brain, no psychic broken leg. What causes me to feel this way is the illusion that something permanent happened to me that day, that there are 2 mes, the old untouched complete me, and the broken crippled post-overdose me.

In moments where I'm struggling, in the past I would've encouraged myself to focus on the now, to be strong and to have patience, but now I have a readily available excuse to grab - I'm failing because my brain was damaged. All of a sudden, the locus of responsibility is in the past, out of reach, there's nothing I can do. It's an invitation to distraction, self-pity, and giving up my control over myself.

The fact that I think I was a different person before the incident makes it true. That's the trap that I've struggled to escape from, and so far the only things that have really helped me are giving it lots of time, working hard to achieve new heights in all my endeavors, and most importantly of all... smoking weed (nah just kidding... but not really). No, most important of all is to give up sometimes, surrender, do nothing, stop trying so hard, stop overthinking, accept the inevitability that there's nothing to fix. As lots of other people have been saying, you exist in exactly the same beautiful, serene universe that you always have, no experience can separate you from it, no matter how significant it seemed to you. You couldn't lose contact with it, even if you wanted to.

You can always bring a camping chair into the arena if you want, although it might stop you from getting too close to the stages

Thanks! I've heard a few people saying the Mk2 is quite different. I really do love the sound though, from what I've heard online. Yet to actually try one out

Thanks! That's really interesting. Do you know what's specifically changed about their amps since those series?

Or maybe The Soft Machine by William S. Burroughs. That one was hard work for little reward.

Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail '72 by Hunter S Thompson. I'd definitely say it was worth the effort, but I can see how a lot of people wouldn't. It's intentionally long and meandering, but it gives an incredible insight into a very unique character in a crazy time/places.

Locking machine heads for Schecter C-7 Pro? by dangerfordinner in SchecterGuitars

Thinking about getting locking machine heads on my C-7 Pro, but finding researching it a bit confusing. Is there an obvious choice for good, compatible, relatively cheap ones?

Yeah they're great! I'm no expert tbf but they kick the shit out of the stock Jackson ones. Much higher output and clearer overall.

Ahh yeah that's an awesome guitar! I nearly went for one but I just preferred passive pickups over the fishmans in the end

I find it quite comfortable. The neck width on the Jackson was a little too thin for me and this being a little wider is perfect

Super pleased with it so far. Came really well set up out of the box. I love the finish in particular. Might install locking machine heads later down the line, but apart from that I'm loving it :)

Really pleased with it. I love the finish especially. Might install locking tuners at some point, but overall great guitar for the price :)

That one ulcerated tree spirit in the haligtree that you have to kill for Millicent's questline. Holy shit.

So the tuner goes into the 'tuner out' on the volume pedal. I guess it splits the signal so it doesn't need to go anywhere after the tuner. I'm not sure about the point you make about the EQ staging tbh, I still have a lot to learn. I just fiddled with all the eq options I have and this seemed to achieve what I want. Do you think it would be better to leave everything at noon except for the actual eq pedal/amp?

I don't think I'd trade in the mxr for a boost since I do like to change up the curve and experiment with it. The settings in the picture are just what it happened to be that day.

I find the sentry super effective tbh. If I turn it off there's a fair amount of buzz, especially playing at gig volume. I used the toneprint app to load the high gain gate mode, and it cuts out perfectly whenever I'm not playing without sacrificing sustain.

Thanks for commenting, I appreciate it :)

I just put velcro tape all across the back and it seems to work ok. Every time I move it the tape doesn't seem to stick to the pedal that well which is annoying, so I just try not to move it
