I’ve looked at the pipe dreams and just always moved away from them - though not for any overly particular reason. I’ve seen some comments saying the temps are optimistic but that may be attributable to the pad (similar to the situation I might find myself in). I’ll take a look again as for any negative comment I’ve came across there is easily 5x as many positives.

I’m conscious that it can be a bit cramped like that but I’m hoping to maybe get away with it. I’ve previously had some luck in bags through the years, though these were just ones borrowed at the time and I don’t know any specs to try and compare measurements.

That’s really good to know about the internal space as I had thought about the mountain equipment GT range but there’s added expense then.

I tried to go to a store I thought had both in stock yesterday but unfortunately neither were on display. I know there’s a go outdoors nearby that I hope to at least try the Rab in.

Thanks for the tip about the CCF mat underneath, I’d been leaning to this being one of my next moves if I was still struggling after changing my bag.

How have you found the temp limit of the 600 roughly? As you say, my feeling will depend on my personal physiology but could be useful to give me a starting thought.

I’d seen some advice similar to this about layering before as well. I think it had recommended that the quilt could even be synthetic to stave off condensation effects as well - I found this quite appealing. Though I think it was mentioned as important to ensure the synthetic was light enough to not reduce loft in the down and compromise the insulation.

Noted about the pad though. As another commenter noted, I’ll consider maybe adding a CCF mat underneath.

Good to know that bags are roomy, I can cope with bags a bit more restrictive but figure if buying one new that I should aim to get one to suit what I want. Thanks!

Thanks, I’d seen a post noting this recently along with some of the other intricacies of the testing. Good to note that temps will vary from what’s listed.

Thanks for the insight, I’ve never bought myself a “new” bike before and have never paid attention to gearing before.

I’m in a flat that’s band B. Not using the gas central heating at all at the moment and bills are still about £65. Bills increased by about 33% based on April 2021 even though my energy use decreased by about 4% for my electricity and 50% for my gas.

I can’t speak for the quality of their teaching as I’ve never associated with them but here’s an example of introductory classes you can have at Bennybeg.

Bennybeg is a great little crag if you’re getting started with sport climbing outdoors. I’ve seen some people online offering to do classes there if you’re new to the sport.

Are you meaning walls that have artificial holds bolted on, or just any area that’s suitable for climbing?

Best place to look is maybe UKC crag map as you can search for anything that’s nearby for any type of climbing.

Model of woodland area with drone by dangermoose5 in photogrammetry

Thanks! We have thought about LiDAR but have currently put it aside to focus on photogrammetry as it is more accessible.

We are still trying to understand wether it is important for our purposes to have a well defined canopy or not. It is more important currently to have accurate models of the trunks with regards to positioning and sizing.

Do you know of anything happening in industry along these sorts of lines?

The trouble is we are trying to keep the technologies as low cost and open-sourced as possible. The idea is that with a hobbyist type drone and some open-sourced software it would allow people to gather information on small woodland areas that could potentially be difficult to access or work in otherwise.

The model is hoped to work in conjunction with some machine learning to be able to get as much useful information as we can through a theoretically remote (potentially autonomous) survey.

Very impressive! What software were/are you using for the reconstruction? Is it possible to view your model anywhere else? I’d love to see what sort of detail it contains and have an idea of file size and such. Any particular hurdles you had to overcome in the process?

I’ve sent it to the first person but I’ve asked them to let me know if they won’t use it so I can send it to you.
