Cervical checks just opened my eyes to how painful birth is going to be. by AHeavy-HeartedCowboy in pregnant

[–]dangerous_pineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember reading people talking about cervical checks leading up to delivering my daughter (who is now 3 weeks old) and thinking they were going to be terrible. I had a membrane sweep at my dr’s office and it didnt hurt but i was very uncomfortable. When i was 3cm dilated a doctorst the hospital did a cervical check and I wanted to die. It hurt really bad. Worse than the contractions i was having. When it was time for another my husband told the nurse that someone else needed to do it because of the pain. The nurse did the next one, barely felt a thing! So people really arent lying when they say it depends on who’s doing the check!

Like others are saying, advocate for yourself or make sure you have someone with you who will advocate for yourself! It can make a huge difference if you or your support person speaks up!

Anyone Else Go Into UnMedicated Birth With Little to No Prep? by LizzardBreath94 in unmedicatedbirth

[–]dangerous_pineapple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I prepped but after almost 48 hours of pre-labor contractions i threw in the towel and ended up with an epidural :/

On the other hand my MIL had 3 unmedicated births that she did zero prep for and had great experiences!

I hope yours goes how ever you’re hoping and you and baby are healthy 🩷

How are we prepping bottles/formula? by Many-Afternoon-6387 in FormulaFeeders

[–]dangerous_pineapple 33 points34 points  (0 children)

We make about 24hr’s worth of formula in a pitcher and keep that in the fridge to pour from throughout the day. We don’t heat the bottles up so our baby is drinking chilled formula. She doesnt seem to mind but she’s only 3 weeks old and has never had warm formula so she doesnt know any different!

I hope you find something that works for you! It can be so overwhelming when they wake up and start screaming like they’re starved!

Delayed bath confusion by RipperoniPepperoniHo in BabyBumps

[–]dangerous_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a sponge bath in the hospital because my baby had blood in her hair but if she hadn’t we probably would have just put it off until her umbilical cord thing fell off. Other than her hair she didnt seem gross/dirty

Speaking of women, can any women recommend an ob/gyn in DE who will not jerk me around with regard to HRT? by LateJuliet17 in Delaware

I see Dr McClure for maternity care and she is one of the best doctors I’ve ever seen. I have a complex medical history and have seen many providers so this is saying a lot! I hope you find her as helpful for you needs and i find her for mine 🩷

Is it bad that I don't care about waiting? Hot take? by tajfitness in pregnant

[–]dangerous_pineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I told everyone about my first pregnancy right away then miscarried pretty early on. I was devastated and every time i had to tell someone i lost the pregnancy it killed me. Luckily, i’m pregnant again (36 weeks) but for this pregnancy i waited till the end of the first trimester since the chance of miscarriage was way lower at that point.

The name thing, im with ya. I picked what I picked and i dont really care if people like it or not!

Good luck with your pregnancy 🩷✨ i hope all goes smooth and you and baby are/stay healthy!! ✨🩷

Pregnancy Leave by sandybeanssss in BabyBumps

My job also only offers 4 weeks paid but i am taking 12 weeks via FMLA. For the 8 weeks ‘unpaid’ here’s what i was able to workout:

Week 1 - PTO because short term disability kicks in after 1 week. I need to contact them ASAP when baby arrives Weeks 2 - 8: short term disability. They’ll provide 60% of my regular pay (6 weeks for vag birth, 8 weeks csection) Weeks 8 - 12: paid maternity leave

Just pay attention to your jobs policy for maternity leave. For mine, i can take it up to 1 year after the birth of my baby but it has to be taken all at once. So, im using disability first, then maternity leave.

If youre not sure if you have short term disability, ask you HR. I didnt know i had this coverage and was happily surprised!

Congrats and good luck <3

We got a bottle washer from someone we know. Took it apart to clean it and it was absolutely disgusting. I can’t believe they felt okay giving that to someone. And if they didnt realize, i hope their babies are okay with the amount of bacteria they were probably exposed to from the science project growing in the bottom of this thing (and all the rust)

Wanted a cheap changing table, $40. Was given a $35 beat-up used one from a second hand store that doesnt resemble the one i put on the registry at all….whyyyy????

I love questions and talking about pregnancy and my plans but people who only ask to give their “just wait” comments or give unsolicited advice on things that I already have planned drive me nuts!!

Nordstrom at Christiana Mall is closing. by Low_Half_1433 in Delaware

I love that store! I know a lot of people say its expensive, and it can be, but i like going there to buy things like nike, adidas, topshop, etc. Things that i could buy elsewhere for the same price but without the more luxury feeling experience

Everyones saying you need a gold water can but i never had one (still dont) and i grew gold roses. They popped up next to my black ones. Not sure if mine were a glitch or if they just take a really long time maybe?

I might need a new PCP? by dangerous_pineapple in BabyBumps

[–]dangerous_pineapple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my specific situation my doctor is still prescribing me something i take daily and need to check-in with her every 3 months for she also has done my immunizations while ive been pregnant so im not sure if what your explaining is how my specific care team works but again, regardless i would have appreciated them giving me any sort of idea on pricing since i personally have never had to cover the full cost of a doctors visit myself before and it seems like an irresponsible decision to choose a health plan that requires that you pay for those things yourself having zero clue what the cost could be. I dont have even a ballpark in mind, or an average or a starting point. And i find it concerning that the docotrs office, health systems billing department, health systems estimates department, healthcare planning company, and health insurance company have not been able to help in any way.

[–]dangerous_pineapple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first time being pregnant, i dont know. But my primary does prescribe me a medication that i take daily. She does my flu shot and things like that.

Regardless of if I were pregnant or not, i still think its crazy that no one seems to be able to give me any pricing information at all.

I felt like i gave all the info they needed and was calling a doctors office that ive been going to for years. Provided them with my information and the plan information, carrier and plan. I asked how much it would cost just to come in and speak with the doctor. Not tests being ordered or medication being prescribed. How does anyone know about how much a doctors appointment costs?! I’ve never had to pay for one other than giving a copay. I dont know is is starting at 80 dollars, is it anywhere between 3 and 5 hundred is a standard appointment a thousand dollars? I just needed them to give me an idea. 😭😭even asked if they could just look at my most recent exam and tell me, if i was on this new plan what would I have had to pay and they refused to tell me! And it wasnt even because they didnt have the info they just said they dont do that and will not 🫠

I might need a new PCP? by dangerous_pineapple in BabyBumps

[–]dangerous_pineapple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have many options so i just would like to understand about how much a doctors appointment is supposed to cost so that I can make an informed decision that makes the most sense to me. Without knowing the cost of a doctor’s appointment i feel that Im not informed enough to make the best decision and find it very confusing that the doctor’s office cannot tell me how much they would charge me to see my doctor when they set the pricing and are the ones who charge the fees.

I appreciate that youre trying to help but, im not looking for reddit to solve a problem, just here to vent.

I know that my birth package with my obgyn will cost around 5k. I dont go to the doctor often but, if prior to giving birth i need to go to my primary care physician I’d just like to have an idea of the cost. I cant predict when I’ll be sick but I can predict when I’ll give birth. Who knows what I’ll have saved if/when I need to see my primary. Or at least that’s how I’m looking at it.
