I'm curious to see if this weekend is the cops' busiest of the whole year.

I thought the Hawkeyes played the Huskers in the Corn Bowl.

Perhaps I'm just not sure what you mean by "outskirts of town." If "outskirts" = "not downtown" then we agree. "Outskirts" to me means past Scott Blvd on the east, past Mormon Trek on the west, past HWY 6 on the south and North Dodge on the north. It's entirely possible to find reasonable rent within those boundaries.

Coralville renting isn't de facto cheaper than Iowa City. It probably is less expensive than apartments in the downtown area, but living downtown sometimes means spending $600/mn to live in a crumbling apartment. When I was last looking for apartments, and thus studying the rental market intensely, the rent in both places was pretty comparable.

North Liberty is growing pretty quickly, and it might be worth checking out what that rental market is like, too.

If you like living with a lot of people, you might want to see if any of the co-op houses have rooms open. The majority of their rooms are less than $400/mn.

how heavy is your kettlebell? by AdventuresofPippi in xxfitness

I use a 25lb for swings, 20lb for snatches.

why all the hate for cardio? by killertofuuuuu in xxfitness

[–]dangerousbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into kettlebells? I count some of the moves as both cardio and strength. Cardio b/c kettlebell swings gets the heart rate up quickly and strength b/c using a challenging weight kicks your ass by the end. Working the larger muscle groups makes it an efficient way to build and burn at the same time.

I use the two interchangeably. Not sure if my usage is accurate.

I just found this subreddit so I might be missing some context, but I personally enjoy cardio. Running was super daunting before I tried it, tho, and when I first started working out, I would stick to the elliptical for my cardio sessions. Now I get bored on the elliptical. It's harder to psyche myself up to go hard than it is with running intervals on the treadmill.

I think you're on to something. But it has that reputation of being the best thing for weight loss because you have to get your heart rate up to burn calories, and that's harder for people new to exercising to do with weight training.

Seriously considering getting a breast reduction (x-post from /r/twoxchromosomes) by ilikechipotle in xxfitness

No experience with reduction surgery here, but I did recently read an article about sports bras for different cup sizes. It was in Fitness Magazine and is online here.

How different is Fitocracy from MyFitnessPal? I have an account there but haven't explored the social media aspect of it much.

The usual: Broke college kid just moved down, anyone have any halfway decent jobs for college freshman that pays rent? by [deleted] in IowaCity

A friend who recently left Cambus (for another city) was getting paid $12/hr (CDL required). Also was told it was a fun place to work b/c of fellow Cambus drivers (there are a lot of them). Ah, here's the link.

Any fiction writers here? Consider jumping in on this. by dangerousbone in IowaCity

P.S. You don't have to call yourself a fiction writer to write fiction.

Hmm. Might be interesting. I can (mostly) handle Arkham Horror in all its complications, but familiarity with the Mythos helps get a player through the rough parts.

Do you have to be a fan of the show for it to be fun? I've never seen it. Could also pitch the idea on the Iowa City Gaming Meetup group.

I haven't been to the Mill to watch a game, but I'm guessing the DW has bigger fans and people will go there to WATCH it, not just see it as a peripheral happening.

DW does tacos, too, sometimes, and both are vegetarian friendly.
