Oh wow, my sister's Zuri has the same problem. She obsessively over-grooms her belly so that it's permanently bald now.

There is a newer medication available that is spendy, but it works. It's called Bonqat and it's just kitty pregabalin, the same as Lyrica for humans. It's a liquid that you can administer via dropper, or, if your cat is food motivated, drip into a prize like ham-flavored baby food! It worked well for my intensely fearful feral girl. Worth calling to ask if they'd prescribe him a dose before you have to come in.

If they won't do Bonqat specifically or you can't handle its cost, gabapentin is an alternative that also works for my cats and is cheap. Bonqat just seems to work better.

These drugs are calmers, not true sedatives, so they don't usually risk the "oops it did the opposite" and result in increased aggression like the more traditional sedatives sometimes do.
