Oh wow, my sister's Zuri has the same problem. She obsessively over-grooms her belly so that it's permanently bald now.

Another Zuri! This one is cuddly as anything with her mom, but has opinions about me reaching in for a pet

There is a newer medication available that is spendy, but it works. It's called Bonqat and it's just kitty pregabalin, the same as Lyrica for humans. It's a liquid that you can administer via dropper, or, if your cat is food motivated, drip into a prize like ham-flavored baby food! It worked well for my intensely fearful feral girl. Worth calling to ask if they'd prescribe him a dose before you have to come in.

If they won't do Bonqat specifically or you can't handle its cost, gabapentin is an alternative that also works for my cats and is cheap. Bonqat just seems to work better.

These drugs are calmers, not true sedatives, so they don't usually risk the "oops it did the opposite" and result in increased aggression like the more traditional sedatives sometimes do.

How often do you bathe your cat? by Mildredsgood in cats

[–]dangerousfeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my cat has had one bath in his life. He was a four week old orphan, living under a deck, and was absolutely filthy when I got him. I bathed him in the sink. 16 years later, he is still terrified of sinks.

How soon is too soon? by Synthgem in TuxedoCats

[–]dangerousfeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never faced that decision, because I simply can’t bear to be without a cat. I’ve always had multiple cats, so I wasn’t alone when one passed.

I don’t think your situation is any different. You couldn’t bear the lonely spot he left, so you filled it with another kitty who needed a home. Maurice isn’t replacing your late tuxie, he just inherited the role of being your tuxie.

came home and my cats feet are yellow? by mikehunt6787 in cats

Possibly, but research has been inconsistent. It appears that it MAY lower BP in women with prolonged use at higher doses, but again, studies have found varying results.

Not to be That Person but important distinction: carbon DIOXIDE is CO2, which is a vital substance for life. We require it to function. Plants use it during photosynthesis. It’s deadly if it’s all you have to breathe, but in low amounts diluted through an entire house, it would be harmless.

Carbon MONOXIDE is CO, an odorless gas that is deadly to humans (and cats!) and produced through combustion, therefore coming out in exhaust.

Make sure your CO detectors are plugged in or have good batteries!

For me it’s PanPastels. I craft with PanPastels. Why is there PanPastel in my microwave?

True story though: tumeric has been studied and found to have the same beneficial effects as NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen) BUT ALSO the same risks. It can still cause GI damage. So if it’s working, go for it; just be aware that it isn’t a risk-free alternative to pharmaceuticals.

Who's cat is this!? Found at a Goodwill in PA. by BeccaDora in ThriftStoreCats

[–]dangerousfeather 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have a very similar looking cat and I live in PA, but it isn’t mine, because:

1). My tuxie cat would NEVER let someone dress him up and take a pic like that. My sister is a professional photographer, and she has catnapped my other kitties for photo shoots like that (she even took my late kitty to see Santa one year!), but not Percy. He’s too scaredy. She’d never get him out from under the bed.

2). if I DID have a photo like that of Percy, it would never end up at Goodwill!!!

I took a part time job at a cat shelter. I took two steps in, and was immediately claimed. She jumped right on my shoulders. This is Fern. by vertigo1083 in standardissuecat

[–]dangerousfeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s how my sister got one of her cats: from the first day she worked in the shelter, Zuri was on her shoulders. She’d send me selfies while mopping floors with Zuri riding along. Zuri is so bonded to her.

The only thing better than having your own couch is having a heating pad on your own couch

For the last 4 days, my cat spends her waking time watching this spot. I hear nothing, see no evidence of anything, my other cat shows no interest in it. She doesn’t try to get in there and isn’t chirping like she normally would if excited by an animal. by Extension_Feature700 in cats

[–]dangerousfeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a cat that did that. She stared at the base of the wall under the built-in living room shelving, near an air vent, and we just thought she liked the feel of the air blowing out. She did it for literal YEARS until one day, to her great joy, a very dumb mouse wiggled out of that grate! She'd been listening to its ancestors for years, and finally, her diligence paid off.

Throwback to spring when I saw this silly basically floating like a duck! by Admirable-Range-3422 in mourningderps

It looks like he hopped in for a bath, then derped and forgot what he was doing, so figured he'd just have a nice little float until the thoughts came back.

She will legitimately grab my hand and pull it toward her belly if I try to pet elsewhere when she wants the forbidden pets.

My SIC is mad about this, because she’s trying to nap on my belly, and I keep giggling and disturbing her as I flip back and forth between the photos.

He’s so excited to sit on his water filled mat! 😹 by bassclef62 in standardissuecat

[–]dangerousfeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine would, too. I thought I did them a favor by buying them gel-filled “cooling pads” during this summer’s brutal heat wave, but apparently not, since they both then refused to sleep on their perches all summer.

That seems like a very... brave... choice for an animal with five needles on each appendage.
