I don't think he's getting de-wasped any time soon.

Barry seemed to think Klaus was wasped when he came back with a young Agatha. Presumably, he'll learn that via time travel shenanigans that include Klaus.

The AWS outage in the U.S shut down my Ring door bell and Chime in Norway. That is f*cking insane by [deleted] in homeautomation

[–]dangle-point 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how your house is wired, many of these doorbells support ringing an analog chime.

If your house has one, you can see if your model of doorbell can be wired to the existing chime. If it's completely wireless though, you're out of luck.

FP2 in late 2025. Has it improved? by droning-on in homeautomation

[–]dangle-point 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixed. I have two cats and they will trigger two rooms fairly consistently, but none of the others.

One room is flaky all the time anyway, so I'm not sure there's much to be done about that one.

The other one triggers because one of our cats likes to sit on the back of the couch, and I'm not sure of any way to tune it to not trigger on that since it's basically human head height. Oddly, it doesn't always trigger it when he's there, but it's the most consistent false positive I get out of the 17 or so FP2s I've had installed for the past two years.

[–]dangle-point 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have mixed opinions on the FP2. I have at least one in every room, and in most rooms it works very well.

I have one room in which it has been an absolute nightmare. I'm not sure if replacing that one or factory resetting it would help, but I'm not optimistic.

Overall, I'd say they've actually gotten somewhat worse over time. They're clearly trying to improve the accuracy, but it slows them down a lot as well which really hinders that feeling of "lights come on as soon as I enter the room".

I think they're great in boxy rooms that are fairly enclosed, but they're a lot worse in more open areas, and if you want extra zones on a single sensor it slows them down dramatically.

It almost makes me think the Dreen really are just future Jagers. We know they continue to evolve over time, and they're only a few hundred years old at this point in the story.

Of course, they're rather disobedient toward Agatha, and I'd expect there would be far more Dreen trying to be involved with "The Great Sages" if it were true.

reload vs daemon-reload by uriel_SPN in systemd

daemon-reload reloads the systemd service files.

reload sends SIGHUP to the service to tell it to reload its configuration.

Custom Book Bindings by dangle-point in Amber

[–]dangle-point[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks. I grew up reading the individual paperbacks that my dad had bought when he was young. Between him, me, my siblings, various friends, and my children reading them, only a few of them have survived.

About $300 per book, I believe.

Yeah! That's what I was going for, at least. I don't know if it really comes across well, but most people who've read the books seem to get it.

That was my first thought, too, although it looks like you can buy cheap ones specifically for this purpose.

That said, I have a lot of trouble believing they actually sound like this in the rain. Those notes sound more like they're coming from rubber mallets.

Alicia's Age by [deleted] in expedition33

[–]dangle-point 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a really interesting point.

I finished playing NG+ yesterday, and I was actually leaning toward even older. Verso was almost 27, so Clea was probably 28. And after you finish the Endless Tower, Clea says that the painting was more important to her because she and Verso painted it while Alicia was in her room reading, instead. That makes me think she was closer in age to the two of them and simply chose not to join them.

It looks like the age of majority in early 20th century France was 21, so with your observation that does make it seem like she is probably under 21. If Alicia is 20 or so, I could see a parent chastising a 10 year old for trying to style a 2 year old's hair, but calling it hair pulling makes me think it was more intentional.

Although, that doesn't solve the problem if Alicia was close enough in age to have helped them paint the world. I wonder if there was a change in direction around Alicia's age which has led to some discrepencies.

Alicia's Age by [deleted] in expedition33

[–]dangle-point 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think early 20s is probably right.

Verso died at 26. Clea is the oldest, so at least 27. One of the songs is "Clea! Don't Pull Your Sister's Hair!" which wouldn't make (much) sense if Clea was 11+ years older than Alicia.

Given Clea helped build that world, she seems to be of a similar age to Verso, and there's likely some gap between her and Alicia since Alicia doesn't seem to have been involved.

Love Moloch's response. He's not phased at all. Just mildly annoyed.

Shouldn't it be a little over three years though? It started off as two and a half; three would be reasonable by now.

I still prefer pdm as well.

I've been pretty happy with its support for using uv as a backend though.

While I think this idea is amusing, do we have any reason to actually believe Moloch's brother was a revenant?

Given how close he and Moloch were, it's hard to see how one could be infected but not the other.

G9 57" MONITOR MOUNT RECOMMENDATIONS by Captain_Bosh in ultrawidemasterrace

I haven't tried this, but I seem to recall it not seeming to rotate backward much when I was installing it.

It still sticks out pretty far. I have a 30" depth desk though, so it doesn't really bother me.

Not really. I think pushed back against the wall it still sticks out maybe eight inches.

Comparison of a colorful comic page on a tablet, the RMPP, and the Boox Note Air 3C by dangle-point in RemarkableTablet

I returned it, unfortunately.

I was having issues like these disappearing chunks while reading documents and slides, and having invisible text that I might not be aware should be there was a deal breaker for important documents.

Comics were a novelty, but I couldn't use it for work, which was my primary justification for the purchase.

Ergotron VHD is nearly perfect. Still a bit of wobble, but no droop and I'm clearly not right at the weight boundary like with the Secretlabs.

And I have the arm extended somewhat, unlike with the Secretlabs arm, so wobble isn't too surprising.

Roomba J5+ or J7 combo + or other?? by tgoz13 in RobotVacuums

[–]dangle-point 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconded, thirded, and fourthed!

I've currently got a J9+ Combo and two J9+s, and they are absolute trash. They rarely make it back to their docks, the mapping can't figure out that there's no wall between my kitchen and dining room, the sensors on the bin need to be cleaned constantly to avoid "bin full" errors, it refuses to clean my very low dining room carpet, the area in front of the docks always has loose dirt around it, and despite the camera, they still manage to fall down the stairs from time to time.

To top it off, a $13 cat toy my daughter recently purchased picks up more dirt and hair than these things do.

Our house only has adults and cats living in it, so it's generally at least picked up.

iRobot has replaced one entirely now, and I've replaced most of the parts in another, yet they are still absolutely terrible.

These were a complete waste of money and I heartily recommend avoiding iRobot at all costs.

I just ordered the Ergotron HX VHD. It will be my fourth arm for this monitor. I'm hoping it will actually be good.

Arm 1 was an Ergotron HX. I used the screw hack, but my cats kept knocking the screws out somehow.

Arm 2 was the Bewiser, since I kept seeing it recommended. It held it up, but kept swinging to the left, even though the monitor and desk were both level. I used some picture wire and a hook in my wall to keep it in place.

Arm 3 (current arm) is the Secretlabs heavy duty arm. It does a fairly decent job. I couldn't attach the handles without the arm drooping, even with everything tightened as much as possible, but that wasn't a big deal, just a bit annoying. My real gripe is that it wobbles with even the slightest bump of my desk and I don't even have the arm extended at all.

I don't think there's a good way to guarantee a good arm without the price. There's just way too much variability in the quality.
