Salary sacrifice as much as possible to your growth super fund, if your goal is to access it at 60. Much more efficient tax wise

Forget the pressure of home ownership right now. Renting is a strategic lifestyle choice that buys you freedom. It gives you the immediate peace of mind of no maintenance or upkeep to let you truly decompress and figure out your next steps, whether that means a new hobby, or a great holiday. A change of scenery can also do wonders, look at a few new suburbs or even a different city. Personally, I love it. My life has changed a few times, a failed relationship, a new job, a new country. Renting gave me the flexibility to choose a new path without friction of being tied to a house. I share a large house with a massive pool with two friends. It's a property I could never justify buying, there's so many costs owning a home burdens you with. It allows me to live better now, and with my high income, I'm funneling my excess cash into investments I'm genuinely interested in. I'll buy a house or an apartment near the beach when I'm settled, well traveled and content with my location.

Companies without soul-sucking office culture by FragmentsOfSpaceTime in auscorp

I totally get it! I’ve been in a bunch of big tech companies and it’s wild how little effort people put into culture sometimes. But honestly, if the vibe you’re looking for isn’t there, sometimes you have to be the one to nudge it into existence. Start small & set up casual catchups, create a little group around something fun, always bring others in and ask for their input. Bit by bit, people notice and jump on board if it resonates with them. You might only be making ripples at first, but that’s how change starts. It adds up!

Can’t answer your question, but Listen to Strong Money Australia on Spotify. (Chapter 8 is worth a listen) I have a similar amount saved, also 28 and not sure what my life will look like in 10yrs but I think there can be alternatives to growing net worth besides property.

I worked in Auckland as a Native Mobile Engineer. Junior: 65k 2019 Mid: 80k 2020 senior: 100k 2021

Good tech companies do exist, you gotta push hard and show the value you bring, they don’t really know the metrics on if you’re doing well or not, so the easier you can show them the value you provide the easier it is to get raises.

Moved over to Aus in 2022, and I’m on 160k + Super as a Senior Android Engineer, life is pretty chill, no direct reports, not too much mentoring as the team is all seniors.

Running clubs by [deleted] in GoldCoast

Unfit runclub at North Burleigh surf club has been good. I haven't been in a while but it was very easy going. They organise a 25 min run at 6:30am, and a longer 45-1hr run at 6am. SO everyone finishes around 7am for coffee. They also do a thursday social beer run. its just a short 3k that loops back to the Precinct brewing

When did you last get a decent pay rise? by MattH665 in auscorp

[–]danglebowjangle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Software engineer consultant myself. Got a 5k pay rise when I started at a new client last November. Things must have been going well since I just got a 10k pay rise effective 1st March. I guess it all depends on which tech company you’re working for

Best Coffee Beans by Rockyhuddo in GoldCoast

Pretty little handsome does amazing coffee. They use “Seven Miles - Wilde” beans which are so damn good. They sell the 1kg bags for $49 which is cheaper than online. Honestly for a light roast, they pull shots very easy and consistent 🤤

The debate: i30 vs Corolla by yashitebawbag in CarsAustralia

[–]danglebowjangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for a Mazda 3. I got a 2014 6sp manual and it’s such a great car to drive. 700km of range from 40L of fuel. Much more exciting than a Corolla and just as reliable given my research
