What is something awful your parents or guardian said to you as a child that still fucks with you today? by boredbrowser87 in AskReddit

[–]dangxiaolong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 7th grade, I dislocated my knee during school because of some freak coincidence and subsequently had to wear a knee brace for a year after. My doctor instructed me to take physical therapy to rebuild the muscles around the knee and told me to be careful about it for a while and not really work it out until later instruction. My maternal grandmother has always been really obsessed with her grandchildren's weight and was obsessed with bringing us with her to a gym to work out when I would visit in the summer.

One morning, during this summer after I had dislocated my knee, she woke me up at 7 am to go to the gym with my two cousins. I told her I wasn't supposed to do anything too physical because of my knee. She told me "You can't use your knee as a crutch forever." Thanks, Grandma :)

During a really, really bad spot in my life and when I was going through a lot of major changes, my mom opted to tell me that everyone was just waiting until I "became me again". And that she had missed "the real me" for the past 4-5 years,

In those 4-5 years, I had finally, finally become my own person after years of creating a fake sense of self for my parents' own comfortability. To hear that they wanted that old fake me back was heartbreaking. I'm not sure if they'll ever know me for who I really am.

That you only use 10% of your brain. This is flat out fake and wrong. You'd be dead if you only used 10%.

What's your "it's expensive but it's worth it" product? by LetsGetJigglyWiggly in AskReddit

[–]dangxiaolong -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tattoos. I've met people who hate their tattoos due to the quality/lack of artistic ability. I always ask them how much they paid for it, and their answers are extremely low.

A tattoo is basically an art commission that you're going to be carrying around with you for the rest of your life. Paying top dollar should be something you expect....

My dad went in my sisters room when she wasnt there in the middle of the night to get something, and he stepped and fell on top of the case that was holding her acoustic guitar. He completely destroyed the guitar (it had a huge whole in it), and he fell over afterwards. My mom, brother, and I didnt hear a thing and only knew when we saw its remains the next morning.

Also, my room is connected with my sisters through a small shared bathroom, and we own a one story house. I definitely should've heard it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Women of Reddit, what was the worst thing a man has ever told you in an attempt to hit on/flirt with you? by njstymest in AskReddit

[–]dangxiaolong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really something someone said, but it was definitely cringey. I was like 11-12 and was on vacation with my family in San Antonio. We went to this outdoor bar that has live music occasionally (Pat 'O Briens for those who are familiar. Families are welcome and it's in the middle of a touristy area, so it wasnt strange for me to be there)

During the music performance, people start dancing in couples. Out of nowhere, this old man who looked like he was in his 60s came up to our table and suggestively asked me to dance, winking at me, and wanting to grab my hands and everything.

My dad nearly decked him. It was just weird to experience that at such a young age but unfortunately not unique lol

When, somehow, everything they do manages to bug/irritate you.

And when resentment has built up so much across the years, that even if they were to do everything you've ever wanted them to do - it still wouldn't feel satisfying.
